We're coming up to the last stages of finishing a house. I can't really justify sticking everything on the wishlist in it but the house will have oak flooring throughout downstairs and a high gloss kitchen with a lovely glass splashback.
I think that stone worktops are lovely but I also would like to introduce glass balustrading on the staircase but as I'm concerned about overall costs and so I'm considering maybe saving a bit by having a wood worktop instead of stone. I think the kitchen is going to look great anyway.
H this evening is minded to do both, but thinks that when push comes to shove the granite is absolutely essential and would dump a glass staircase in favour of granite worktops because he says that wood looks like you're being cheap. I'm thinking about spreading the expense around the house a bit more rather than concentrating much of it in the kitchen, although no doubt the stairs are going to cost more than the worktop.
Honestly, this conversation has been going on for months. No doubt I'm probably trying to influence you in my favour, lol, but if you were viewing a house, which would you prefer to see, which do you think might add more value if the choice were between one or the other?
I've never started a poll before :T in fact I very rarely start threads (you wouldn't believe that with this post count, I know!) Someone had better vote :rotfl:

Something else!I've voted for something else in the hope that the something else wouldn't require lots of cleaning0

Granite/stone worktopsI was thinking of the cleaning of the glass balustrading too. I love all those Grand Design homes too, but always end up thinking about how i'd hate to clean them!0

Granite/stone worktopsWorktops. Kitchens sell houses don't they. It's the heartbeat of the family home.
Glass stairs remind me of offices or shopping centres.
But I haven't got a scooby. :rotfl:0 -
Look at all the late nighters creeping in!
Us night birds are a bit chatty, lol!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Something else!New kitchen going in next week so I've been researching worktops and while I would really like a black, glossy worktop the idea of spending time not only cleaning it but then buffing it up has decidedly put me off0

What are you having then? If we're going down the 'not wood' route based in the fact that my idea is getting trounced then I'm looking at the softer feel of corian or some other composite, I don't want any more shiny, everything will be shiny in that room and reflecting off each other. It will be like a house of mirrors!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

evidently!
I remember having a very random conversation with you years (literally years) ago about beeping the car horn and waving at strangers. I must have found it very funny because every time I see you round here I think of that. You of course have no idea what I'm talking about.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I do vaguely remember it. :rotfl:
Seriously, try it next time you're out with the OH. Everyone has this misconception that everyone in this country is moody and defensive nowadays.
Yet EVERYBODY waves back. It's hilarious.0
