NTL/Telewest to withdraw their 0800 Customer Service Number.

Options
Their replacing their 0800 freephone number customer service access number with an 0845 one.

Also their Broadband Support 0845 numbers will be replaced by an even more expensive 0871 number.

So if your ringing CS from an NTL line they will charge 6p connection and up to 5p a min to call the new 0845 no,and 10p a min to call the 0871 one.

Another example of Rip Off Britain.

See this post on the say no to 0870 site for more details.

I do think sometimes that not a day goes by without some increase in today's telecoms market. The other day the news broke that Orange were "improving" tariffs. With NTL Telewest being such a big concern at the side of BT, it would seem logical that others will follow.

And Ofcom just sit back and let it all happen! The UK's telecoms market is one big joke and the telcos are out for what they can get. The provision of telecommunications comes in way down in the list of priorities.

I can't believe that NTL have got the cheek to do this. As a not very satisfied customer, I have phoned customer services many times. Often, after a very lengthy waiting time, the call has lasted well over an hour. Broadband medic proves to be useless - it either tells me all is well when it isn't or tells me there is something wrong when I already know there is.

What I really hate is phoning to report a broadband fault and being told, courtesy of a recorded message, to use broadband medic for help. If I could get a broadband connection to use broadband medic, I wouldn't be phoning to say that there was no broadband connection.

If I'm going to be charged for customer service calls, is it too much to expect my call to be answered immediately?

The latest NTL newsletter says "Calls cost no more than 5p per minute for 0845 numbers and 10p per minute for 0871 numbers from ntl a landlines. All chargeable calls are subject to a 6p connection charge."

An hours call to try to get through, listen to mindless messages and to report a fault will cost no more than £3.06!!! Is that good news???

When Aol introduced a new number instead of an 0800 number,i recall people were able to get out of contract. Perhaps this will apply in this case?

This is what NTL,s T&C say

    "20. Cancellation Rights

You may cancel the Services without penalty in the following circumstances:-

if we increase our Charges you may cancel those Services in respect of which the Charges have increased by giving us one month's notice in writing within 30 days of the earlier of:

    (a) such price increase being notified to you under Condition 6.2; or

    (b) the date of your first bill following such price increase, irrespective of whether the minimum period in respect of those Services has expired. If you cancel Services under this Condition, the increased Charges relating to those Services will not apply to you;

if we significantly reduce the content of the Services or make any significant change to the terms and conditions of this Agreement under Condition 26, you may terminate this Agreement by giving us one month's notice in writing within 30 days of such change irrespective of whether the minimum period in respect of such Services has expired. When I was with Telewest, I always used 150 to call them, I wouldn't have thought this would change, would it? Maybe this change to a chargable number is only when you are calling from a non-Telewest/NTL line? You should still be able to use 150 / 151 free of charge.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Right I see. Not very good at all. Time for everyone to complain.

Sorry for not being up to date on the matter, been away in Scotland for a week, after finally finding my half-brother after 30 years!
