From 15th June sellers listing in selected categories in Video Games, Mobile & Home Phones, Consumer Electronics, Computing, Photography, and Clothes, Shoes & Accessories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option.
Sellers should also bear in mind that the requirement to offer free postage & packaging applies only to the first domestic P&P option. Further chargeable shipping services can be offered in addition.

Lots more little changes being introduced as well, so check the full announcement here:

Really not happy with that. Clothes is mainly what I sell and seen as I've started clearing everything out at 99p starts so if it doesn't sell I don't lose out. So now if I list something for 99p for free I'll make a loss sending it! So I wont be able to do the free 99p starts, the whole flippin' reason I'm having the clear out.
I'm going to make sure I've finished selling by then because that's pathetic.
It's also bad for the electronic bits that go for more than £39 because the seller's going to have to send them SD and pay the £5+ costs themselves.0 -
Obviously Ebay only did this to make more money from higher FV fees. As a seller of clothes this will force me to increase starting bids to cover P&P & higher Ebay fees. It will be practically impossible to do the 'free listing' at 99p start when this won't even cover P&P for items of clothing. Will probably put everything on Ebay now and close my account before the 15th.
Good opportunity for buyers though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you follow the link though not all clothes sections are included, it looks like it is just accessories at the moment if I am reading this correctly

Raging about this. Why the hell should I have to offer free postage?0

personally I think this is a chance for someone like ebid to really gain some ground, but I think they have gone very quiet now and wonder if the regular sellers are beginning to give up. Imagine a campaign now from ebid or another site offering cheap insertion fees on mobile phones and sellers allowed to show postage seperately. Mount a real campaign on this and once sellers start going across they might start to buy as well and get a bit of momentum going.
Mind you, they never acted on my brilliant (cough!) idea to take ebay on head to head for collected items once paypal became compulsory.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I will certainly be looking at ebid now.
Posting games can cost me up to £2, why should I take that out of my money and then the ebay fees.

i've had somebody ask to return an item that had free postage, normally if its a change of mind i don't refund the postage costs, but with free postage i will have to refund the full amount which included the extra for postage

Just remember, "free Postage" is really inclusive postage - it is simply added onto the starting price of the listing, along with any increase in final value fees.
The only person likely to be worse off is the buyer.
This should not have come as any surprise to anyone - eBay have been making such a noise about fair P&P charges for about 18 months now, and we it's pretty much a daily occurance that we have an "excessive P&P" thread on here.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
