Why Sky Or Freesat when you can have 23 satellites for £180 one off

Many postings on this board give the impression that the choice is between Sky or Freesat broadcasting from the Astra satellite.
I started off with a motorised dish and a receiver which cost me £180. I can receive 23 satellites from Spain to Turkey and have 7,500 channels. (I have just upgraded to a receiver which gives me HD and PVR)
There are no subscriptions to pay and I have HD channels and the PVR works like Sky+
It seems to me that paying Sky for access to just one satellite or paying Freesat for a box which accesses only one satelllite is a no brainer.

The majority of content that the majority of people want is broadcast from the Astra 2 cluster of satellites which is why the majority of people tend to have a fixed dish aligned to this position.0

I am not exactly clear what majorities you are referring to or speaking on behalf of, however my system does enable me to view the Astra satellite. You do realise that most of the programmes it transmits can be viewed without subscription, and perfectly legally, on other satellites.0

Hey bob, Where to i get the equipment i need to get a system like yours.
Thanks0 -
thanks for the info, but there's choice and there's choice. 7,500 channels seems like too much choice to me, but that's my just IMHO :-)0

I have a 1m dish and receive from 45w to 42e and can safely say in recent months there is nothing but c*ap on the majority. 90% are foreign so unless you speak another language they won't be of much use. Infact in recent times all I seem to watch are the news channels MSNBC, BBC World etc. I do like NBC but because of the time difference prime time isn't until 1am here so am stuck with bloody "Days of our lives" and that type of soap trashThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. There was a time when shall we say receivers could be modified and open packages that also carried English sound tracks, So you could watch Saturday 3pm kick offs with English commentary, or the latest block buster before it reached Sky Movies again with English audio, this can't be done anymore. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Scotsbob - which of these 7,500 channels are worth watching though? You do realise that Freesat is subscription free? Is there a nice friendly TV guide that you can browse through?....0
