Is something odd going on with paypal?

Yesterday morning I received an email from paypal confirming I had added a new address to my account. As the address being quoted was mind anyway, I did not think much of it.

So far this morning, in the space of 20 minutes, I have received 5 emails from paypal, all saying the same thing.

I am going to try emailing them and find out what is going on.

I have, just to be on the safe side, also changed my paypal and ebay paswords.

Any ideas?

You can have up to 8 email addresses on a PayPal account. You have a primary address and then you can optionally add 7 secondary addresses which will receive emails from paypal for payment etc. just like the 1st primary address. You can also sign in with a secondary address, but the password is the same.

It sounds like someone could have accessed your paypal account and has started adding these email addresses, because there is no other way that they can do this without logging into your account. Changing your password is a good idea - make sure it is a strong one (i.e. at least 8 letters, not a dictionary word, contains numbers and punctuation etc.) and contact paypal who will probably investigate.

It could just be a slight problem at paypal's end but I would contact them and inform them just in case.

Thank you tigermatt for that advice. I did email paypal, but their first response was automated, because someone did not bother to read my full question. I have emailed them again, and if necessary, will have to telephone them. Hopefully, the next representative to read my email might actually read the whole email.

The only thing which is odd, is that the address which keeps being added is my correct address.

This is just a random thought..it might mean someone has tried to pay you some money using an alternative email address of yours and so paypal is prompting you to add that email so that you can accept the payment?

I can't see why paypal would otherwise be trying to add a perfectly valid email of yours to your existing paypal account, someone, and if not you then it must be a buyer, must have tried to use that email address in conjunction with your paypal account.

Yes, it does sound very odd. It is most likely just a slight problem with their system or something, but you can never rule out fraud or unwanted acess to your paypal account.

The automated responses from PayPal and eBay get very annoying. I remember once eBay wouldn't let me sign in and wouldn't let me use "forgotten my password" either (even though I was using the correct password), and all I kept receiving was automated replies 'clear your cache', 'delete your cookies' etc. They then said they would send me a replacement password, which never came through. Two months later after about 30 emails the supervisor stepped in and did it properly.

I've just made a payment through paypal and have just received an email saying I've added a new address. (It's showing a new postal address, not email address although it's the same just has the postcode twice)
    Very odd

Going to change my password etc now

As the OP of the did, change your password, make sure it is a strong password then email paypal and let them look into it.

Sounds like it is a problem at paypal's end because it is similar to OP's problem.

Sounds like it is definately a problem at PayPal's end. Whether they are aware of it or not is another story - so everyone report it and they will look into it.

Maybe then paypal are being affected by the ebay problem of it being 10 days after an offer day?

I d recall last time there was an offer day several of my buyers were unable to pay me for nearly 24 hours as they got very odd problems occuring with paypal.

Most likely - PayPal is probably run on a similar unreliable network of servers like ebays anyway.
