Condensation in my loft

I noticed a dripping sound on the inside of the loft hatch today, so I had a look and the inside of the roof is covered in water/condensation? Which is now dripping. I have never noticed this before. There is an air vent in there and the loft is insulated. Is this anything to worry about and is there anything I can do about it??
Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi
Do you mean a vent to outside?
Warm moist air is getting into your loft,so you are looking for a bathroom extractor, (or any other extractor) a soil /vent pipe terminated in the roof or even a boiler flue discharging part or all of it's contents into the roof.
Whatever it is you need to solve it or it will rot the roof.

We have Three air vents each side. Two near the bottom and one near the top (staggered)
There needs to be a flow of air.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Canucklehead, I mean a vent to the outside on the side of the property ie. an airbrick. There is no bathroom extractor fan or any other type of extractor fan going into the loft.
Any ideas what i can do to solve the problem?? Do I need more airbricks installed.0 -
Hi
Forgot an obvious one. C/h expansion tank?

u mite have to get some more airvents put into the roof,,u can get ones that replace the roof tiles,,iv just had 3 (each side) put in which causes an air flow in the loft which helps0

Thanks for the suggestion deano. Was it an expensive job?
Canucklehead, I have no water tanks or anything at all in the loft. The strange thing is I have only just noticed it and I've lived here for a few years. Do you think it's anything to do with this current cold snap?? As in it's much warmer inside the house than out??? I often do have to run a dehumidifier and have the windows (double-glazed) open to get rid of condensation but I do have central heating.
The loft has been insulated for years as well, thanks though valley's girl.0 -
We had severe condensation in cold weather (water dripping off he rafters) in the loft after having loft and cavity wall insulation installed. The complete cure for us was to fit "easyvents" - they are very simple plastic devices held open by a spring that are inserted into the felt lining - we used 10 in all. They look like this and completely cured the condensation for us.0

Thanks for the link msun:D
Could you fit them yourself and were they expensive?0 -
depending on your house design, your loft insulation should stop just short of the roofing felt, so air can come into the eaves if they are ventilated, and carry on through the gap you've left. to ventilate through your loft. on a breezy day you should feel a draught through your loft, that is a good thing. Please note, we've had to remove your signature because it was sh*te!0
