Condensation in my loft

I have had condensation in my loft for many winters, but this year it is bone dry,and this is what I have done diffrently- Due to also having condensation on the bedroom windows, I would leave the fanlight windows slightly ajar throughout winter to aid circulation, this however never seemed to make much diffrence to the condensation. This year I decided to keep the windows closed, condensation on the windows is much the same, but the loft dry for the first time in years.I am guessing the moist air from the bedrooms was leaving the windows and being sucked into the loft through the soffit vents.
I think you'll find that the condensation hasn't been as bad this year due to the much milder conditions we've been having so far this winter.0 -
It's an old post so hopefully it's sorted by now but a few points;
Given that nothing stupid has happened like a toilet overflow pipe driping into the insulation or an extractor pipe having split or come adrift, ie, additional water being introduced into the loft (and this includes a roof leak as this has to form water vapour eventually), it really only comes down to 2 things.
Not enough insulation
Or not enough ventilation (or a combination of both).
To thos that say "it's only happenned since we had more insulation installed", then it's not the insulation itselfs fault, it's the installers as they will have encroached to far and blogged the eaves gaps.
A series of ridge vents or a number of vented ridge tiles is imperative on a felted roof, with newer micropore sheeting the whole roof breathes so much less critical.
Gert it fixed as within 2 years mould/fungus/rot will start, and it's much easier prevented than is it's removal,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I thought I would chip in here. I used Easy Vents to solve the issue after reading about them in a previous post. I notice that the old link doesn't work as they have a new Website now. They have a good article explaining what causes loft condensation and how to solve it here and because they also do Loft Insulation there is other information thats interesting as well: thewarmergroup.co.uk/solution-loft-condensation(sorry cant make it easy and add as a link because Im a new User!!!!)0

If you haven't already seen this product, check out the website for lapVent, they also have a new Facebook page and a Twitter link. I have now fitted many hundreds of these and they are the easiest and simplest Building Regs compliant way to ventilate a roof without going outside. Unless you have a source of steam entering your roof they will remove harmful condensation.0

Be very careful when installing these as they work, but dont comply with the building regs and have a tendancy for the springs to fall out and then fall down inside the batten cavity. They also won't stop wind driven rain entering the roof. See their BBA certificate which advises that you regularly check, especially after a storm!0 -
My Xmas decs were wet when I went in the loft for them tonight! Condensation?0

Possibly, possible roof leak, possible water leak, ie, use your loaf and rule out a few.
Rock solid info for you, if you have polythene or any other impermeable membrane, condenation will form un the underside of it, especially in over kitchen and bathroom areas.
IE, anything stored in the loft needs lifting of the insulation and storing on boards etc.
Also maybe 4 year old topics should be left to die, best start another;);).I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
