Got a similar newer thread running on this subject here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1390569

Probably a cross over of advice, but our loft is soaking at the moment, and there is a large gap allowing for eave ventilation.

As The Governor says, one day of wind will sort it out, I saw it happen the first week in Dec, was just the same, soaking wet, it was windy two days afterwards, and within 48 hours the loft was dry. Crazy, but worrying at the same time!

For the others here, after that first incident all was fine, including before and after Christmas, only yesterday have I noticed it happening again, it's obviously weather related, but no doubt caused by badly built/ventilated rooftops (bad building, oh what a surprise in the UK )
  • I got confused as to which thread I was posting in :D
  • There is an other options that have not been said....
    "EASYVENT" SYSTEM https://www.easyvent.com/
but as far a i can find out you cant buy these unless you are a builder and only from the manufactures.
They just hold a gap in the felt to allow the air to flow.
When i was talking to an installer fitting these as part of loft insulation job (on behalf of the local council) he said the other way in to put in some small pieces of battern and that will do the same job. Done in 2 minutes with no cost and no builders. Have a look at the web site above and you will see what i mean. All it does is makes a gap in the felt to allow the air to pass throu do this on both sides of the house job done..

    Hi all,

you can stick a small pipe in each of the felt gaps. No need to cut holes in the felt.

Use plastic water pipe you can get from the likes of B&Q. Cut it in 20cm lengths and stick one of these in all the gaps where the felt layers meet.

Timber is ok but i find that they tend to tear felt if this is really old and if the gap is tiny. A small plastic pipe is more flexible.

Yipppeeee - Just been up in my loft today to check how it looks, and thanks to the slightly warmer weather today and more importantly the wind coming back, everything has dried up.

Some of the timbers looks like they have water stains on them, so I wonder if I need to paint/spray them with anything to protect them?

I've spoken to easyvent today and they are available to anyone to buy direct from them. They are £3.50 each + vat plus a minimum courier fee of £8.50 which covers shipping up to 40 easyvents. They tell me you need 1 easyvent for every 5 sq metres of ceiling area which I recon is approx 10 for an average 3 bedroom detached which should cost less than £50 which I would say is well worth trying. To order don't use the number on their website which goes through to a switchboard. Use 01202 871907 which goes direct to the lady who can take your order. Needless to say I have no connection with this company.

Well hi there brad. What a pity such forum have to put up with such stupid comments. I gave this information in good faith and am NOT connected in any way with this company. I wonder why anybody bothers providing what I thought was helpful information when they have to put up with such idiotic comments as yours. At least I shall know better next time and won't bother in the future.

Just been up to our loft and it's soaking against the south side.

We had insulation professionally installed this Spring and they rolled the insulation right up to the eaves

I am not a happy camper!

So should I don gloves and pull it back so it's 50cm or so away from the eaves?
