The M&S press office has now confirmed (woo hoo) it will be holding a 20% off one day sale both instore and online on Thursday. It will be on womenswear, menswear, lingerie, kidswear, furniture, home, beauty, wine, champagne, and 3 for 2 Christmas gifts.
What's it about?
There are very strong rumours that M&S is having a 20% off everything sale this Thursday 20 November and that on the day it'll be open longer. Having spoken to M&S it's staying tight lipped, but certainly isn't doing anything to dissuade these rumours.
Some rumours say a lot of the info seems to indicate it'll exclude food and electrical goods. Some say this week's Dine for £10 will be included. Some say it's also going to be online... (I'm starting to feel like I'm announcing The Stig on Top Gear!)
THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED WITH ANY CONFIRMATIONS
What to do?
If you're going there on Thursday anyway then fantastic. If you'd be making a special trip, come back to this discussion on the day to see if there are any updates or use the M&S store finder to get your nearest store's number and call it to check on the day.

They did a couple of days with 20% off about 3 years ago and it was a massive success. I worked for them at the time and we were completely run off our feet but it was a great atmosphere in the store. I remember getting cases of Asti Spumante for Xmas and chocolates / boxed biccies from the Chrsitmas shop as well as a pile of clothes for myself. Staff got their usual discount on top so it was a great morale boost to the staff at the time getting some good bargains. I can't remember if the food was 20% off but certainly the food in the Christmas Shop in the food hall like the tins of Shortbread and the wine definitely got the discount.
Stuart Rose did this to boost sales and I can see it working again if this rumour is right.

I remember it too and also remember staff at each queue with sweets/chocolates to keep everyone happy while they waited I don't remember buying any food so I'm guessing it won't cover the food hall but definitely worth a visit.

I'm very interested in this as I bought a blouse last month for an event next month, lol. I haven't worn it yet and would definitely return it to re-purchase at 20% off!
The receipt says I have 90 days to return it. Has anyone had a problem returning unworn items with the tags still on if you've had it a month or so? Also, will they let me just get a refund and re-buy the same item, or should I get a refund and then pull another item off the rack to buy?

I would just get a full refund and buy the item again - I do this all the time!! Keep an eye on the item in case it goes in the sale after xmas and buy it again if you can. Even if you have worn the one you have got, you can return the sale one with the full priced receipt I done this with 4 Per Una items that my hubbie bought me for xmas last year - they all went to 1/2 price.
I used to have a life............................... before MSE!!

Yes definately on Thursday - but NOT on food - so hampers will not be included - although beer, wine and spirits are - and so are food items that are in the 3 for 2 Xmas gift shop. Stores will probably be extending their opening hours to cope with the demand.

They often mark the labels with permanent ink to stop people from returning sale items with a full price receipt.
Being sure is not the same as being right. Certainty without humility can lead to self-righteousness that distorts our view and understanding of the world and of people.
