I'm in a contract with BT Broadband, They have changed there terms below, does this mean I can get out of my contract? I am not happy with these changes and there service in general is !!!!!! to say the least, IE I have had 3 faults in the past 2 months resulting in speeds not even at 1 meg.
Ending the service
8. When you end your broadband service outside your minimum period and do not request and use a migration access code to move to another service provider, you will have to pay a cease charge of £18.51 (from 2nd December 200. You will not have to pay this charge in the event you are moving home and we are unable to provide the service at the new address.
9. Unless we have made a change to the prices or terms and conditions that is to your material disadvantage or paragraphs 10 and 11 of the BT Total Broadband service terms apply you must pay a charge for ending BT Total Broadband within the minimum period by way of compensation to us. This charge will be equal to the total of the monthly rental charges left in the minimum period. This charge will not be subject to VAT.
10. We may also charge you up to £45 for the home hub and £150 for the mobile phone(s) we have provided to you as part of the service.

yes you can leave within 30 days of the change, but remember the ceasation charge is there if you don't migrate from them (ie. use a MAC to leave) . . .0

Apparantly not:
I emailed there head office and got this
I am sorry but there is nothing in these changes that would allow you to leave without a charge if you are breaking your contract. If you are still having problems, we will try to sort them. If you require a MAC code, of we can provide it by calling our service team, but there will be a termination charge if you are in contract.

the change in terms is as follows.... If you have BT broadband and cancel service without using mac than you will be charged £6.00 to cease your service.
From december 2 2008 the £6.00 charge increases to £18.51 one of charge.
the changes do not affect your service or any part of you original agreement with BT.
This is just a change made to charges to cancel the product on your line.0 -
You seem to be saying you can increase charges by any amount (this one is over 200%) and customers have to accept it.
This is not true, and covered by the ts + cs:
Quote:If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the relevant price terms say otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within ten days.0 -
Why does it cost more if you leave without a MAC code?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I became aware of a loophole tonight for getting out of a BT contract and thought I would share. If you are stuck in a contract with BT there is away out.
Simply change over to Business Broadband, BT will let you do that and waive any fees as technically in their eyes your moving to a more expensive service, all Buisness packages come with a 90 day trial however you have to pay for the 90 days regardless of if you leave them early or not. You don’t require a MAC code to do the change; you just order it online and select BT as your provider.

Nice one. And with the added bonus that whilst you are on Business Broadband you can rest assured that they are not running BT Webwise (the "Spyware on the network - watching your internet usage and categorising your interests")
Yes, that's the system that comes courtesy of Phorm - aka 121Media - aka Adware system designer - search Google (or Symantec or F-Secure Anti Virus) for PeopleOnPage or ContextPlus to learn what 121Media were up to before they became business partners of BT. BT would rather you did not know about them, that's why they restrict discussion of the Phorm and BT Webwise issue to only one thread on their Support Forums
You can read more in the current thread (or in one of the closed threads; every so often they close a thread down and delete whatever they do not like and can get away with deleting)

BT Broadband for the home is not what it used to be. Still... At least they don't run the Phorm Webwise system without even telling their customers now (not like they did in 2006 & 2007!)0 -

Im just a little confused by the post above and how that means I can getout of my contract with BT Broadband?
By switching to the business service, does that mean you can cancel in the 90 day period and get your mac code to go elsewhere or have I missed something?
Many many thanks for the share ! Im\desperate to escape the contract as theyve reduced my connection from 6meg to 250k all the time0 -

What you do is switch to business broadband option 1, It will cancel your existing residential contract without penalty, then once onto business broadband which will take about 1 week you then have 90 days to cancel:D You will have to pay for the 90 days though when you cancel which if on option 1 will be £45 but still it will get you away from BTThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
