Default Try Me Free Hunt

Introduction by Martin

This thread is all about products which let you try me for free. A huge amount of work goes into it by a range of volunteers, led and collated by Dormouse. Thanks to all for all the hard work. Enough from me... onto Dormouse for the real info.

____________________________________

What is a try me free product?

The products listed on this thread have short lived a Try Me Free (TMF) or Money Back Guarantee promotion, meaning you pay for the product but later receive the money back (usually as a cheque, Postal Orders or cash). Sometimes you get postage paid for as well.

It is essential that you buy the product and send off your claim before the closing date. TMF products usually have a bright flash on the packaging, something along the lines of "Try me free" (very imaginative ). Sometimes you'll see them on the shelf with TMF-less products and you have to make sure you pick up the flashed product in order to enter.

Read The Terms and Condition PROPERLY!!

Each TMF promotion has its own terms & conditions, which are always printed on the packaging (in annoyingly small print). Follow it to a letter - they are usually very strict!

You almost always have to send them the original receipt, and very often a brief statement of what you liked/disliked about the product.

TMFs are always (or maybe 99.999999% - anyone remember the cheese one a couple of years ago?) one per household, so you can only get money back for one product. If you've another address (parents, in-laws, friends, even work maybe) you can often legitimately buy more than one, just buy them separately and with separate receipts (and make sure no-one at the other address is a compulsive TMFer too ).

Sometimes, companies think of completely bizarre things to ask... you might have to cut bits off the packaging, send a certain-sized bit of paper, only in black ink, whateve, follow it closely .

How long does it take to get paid?

You are supposed to receive your refund within 28 days usually, but this varies a tremendous amount. Anything between 4 days and 2 months is normal.

Here is a list of all the current TMFs:
Please report any new ones you find by clicking reply

Most offers require a special pack; for ones that don't, let's attempt to post the address here (just click reply)

All offers are one per household. Only 2nd class postage will be refunded, where mentioned. Remember to circle your purchase on the receipt.

I'll keep updating this post as new offers appear.

Happy hunting!

ON-GOING TMF/MBG PROMOTIONS (no closing date):

Surf 99 stains
Pick up any pack of Surf washing powder that mentions the '99 Stain Guarantee'. You have to phone the freephone number and speak to a real person and explain why you weren't happy (and mention one of the 99 stains that the powder didn't work on). You get your refund in vouchers for Unilever products (lots to choose from), and usually you get quite a generous amount.
Remember to keep the packaging as the person on the phone will ask for a code from the box
Persil liquitabs/powder MBG
The packaging states: "The quality and performance of this product is guaranteed or your money back." Elsewhere it lists Unilever's address and a freephone number to contact them (0800 776644)
When phoning, they ask lots of questions, e.g. where did i put the tablets, what wash temp, size of wash, colour of clothes etc
Also they need to know where you bought them, were they bio or non-bio, the size of the pack , and the batch number on the box.
They tend to send out money-off vouchers unless you specifically ask for a refund, in which case they send a postal order.
Dulux Once paint: money back guarantee.
If the paint doesn't do what it says on the tin i.e. cover in one coat, then they give you your money back.
You have to ring the number on the side of the paint and then the people ask you what colour you bought and what colour you were painting over, you then get a reference number which you have to write on the top of your receipt and send it to Dulux (they give you the address on the phone).

Default Ryvita web address

Can you post the website address for the Ryvita Try Me Free. It's not mentioned on their regular site and I was wondering if there's a special one you have to visit?

Thanks

With thanks to Happyally on PTS :

In sainsburys today I found some Youngs frozen salmon fillets with garlic & herb which had a "try me free" flash across the top. Inviting you to tell them whether you liked them or not in 15 words and they will send a chq up to value of £4.99 for the purchase. Sainsburys are selling them at £5.99 so not quite "purchase price" but got them just the same.

Default Youngs Frozen Prawns

Hi all TMFrs

Whilst looking for the Youngs Salmon Fillets in Tesco (which I didn't find) I did find another one in a similar vein - it's Youngs Frozen Prawns 350g pack (not sure of the price as I wasn't in a position so take frozen stuff straight home so didn't buy them). The bag has a red flash across the top with yellow TREE ME FREE TASTE CHALLENGE type stuff written across it.

I did read the packaging though - usual Ts & Cs - need till receipt, barcode from the pack and statement saying what you did or didn't like about them. They'll send a cheque for the purchase price - interestingly it says if you bought them on a multi-buy deal, send both barcodes (and presumably you'll get the full price you paid for the entire deal don't quote me on that though, it's just what I read it to mean).

Default Sure & Regina

Also this info might be of use to someone:

If you've not done the Sure for Women Roll On one yet, it's 2 for £2 in Boots so you'd effectively get the second one for 12p by getting the single price of £1.88 refunded.

Regina Chamomile Toilet Tissue is stocked in Wilkinsons as well as Sainsburys and Somerfield for those of you finding it hard to track down (like me)

For anyone wanting an update on the Aunt Bessie's TMF products: I got a second cheque so it seems you can send multiple claims

Has anyone received anything from the Moo one milk yet?

Just got 2 packs £2.99 each. Also, reading the t&c it's quite clear you can claim for salmon and prawns.

Thanks and well done. I presume both refunds were to the same name and address? I am still struggling to receive the refund on my FIRST claim sent for 2 months ago. I rang Aunt Bessie's 10 days ago (at which time I was AGAIN told that only one claim would be accepted!). 3 days later the handling agency rang me and said they would put a 'replacement' refund in the post that same day. That was Monday, still not received anything, tomorrow I shall be writing a stinging letter to Aunt Bessie's!

I found the prawns in Tesco, on offer for half price at £1.99, so what size did you get? Don't know the pack size I saw but as that would make them £3.98 proper price I am wondering if there are two sizes? Agree with you, from the wording on the prawns, (haven't found any salmon), they are separate offers.
(Have you had your Aunt Bessie's refund yet flyer?)

350g pack so good price at Tesco (not that it matters!). Still nothing from AB and, interestingly, the Handling Agent is the same for Tizer, and I've had nothing from them either! Now sent 3 AB and 2 Tizer.

Yes Aunt Bessie's sent to same address/same name so guess I have been one of the lucky ones!

Still waiting on the Moo one milk sent a while ago.....but loved the milk and have started buying it as a result

You don't need the bottle, just the neck tag sellotaped on. You'll be surprised how many of these fall off accidentally
