At the time of the first missed period you're four weeks pregnant. The baby would have been conceived about two weeks previously, but the pregnancy is dated from the first day of the last period.

So, sorry but he could be the father.
  • A quick google search came up with 7-10 days after conception.

Think he's being taken for a ride.

    Big hugs,

I agree with conradmum. It is possible.

If your friend's son was adult enough to have sex without contraception then he's adult enough to deal with the consequences. However, if they're not sure a DNA test could always be done to confirm it. If everyone is happy with that.

Give it a couple of years and if things go well your friend will have tears of joy because of a little nutcase running around.

Well... was he silly enough to have unprotected sex with a girl he'd only just met?
In which case yes he might be the dad. With the new tests you can find out you're pregnant before you miss your period some times. So yes - he could be the dad. However what really will matter is further down the line when the scans are done - this is when an accurate dating can be done.
I guess the question really is: does she intend to keep it? If so what does HE want to do? Does he want contact or not? Regardless he can obviously ask for a paternity test when the baby arrives which will prove if he is indeed the father. I think 8 more months of stress is probably a good lesson for him NEVER to have unprotected sex unless he intends to have children...
I have to say my sympathy is VERY limited even if he IS being taken for a ride - he must obviously have had unprotected sex for it to even be a reality. And thus he's LUCKY it's only an unwanted pregnancy and not HIV... I know which I'd rather any child of mine came home and told me they'd got!

Don't be so quick to judge. The condom may have split.

Then surely he would have known about it and they could have taken other percautions - you can get the "morning after pill" quite easily these days. Heck there are posters about them at the doctors surgery!

Erm....teenagers! (sorry if they're not teenagers...just sounds like it to me). Surely you remember the 'it'll be alright no need to worry' syndrome that is prevalent today.

I know, I work in school health. I was just saying don't be so quick, the OP just wanted an answer to a question, not what the poor kids should and shouldn't have done.

He could be the father, unless he never had sex with her
It is quite possible to know you're pregnant so early on, I had symptoms at 3weeks - though I didn't know I was 3wks pregnant at the time. The home pregnancy tests are very accurate and she may know her cycle etc very well. I guess it is possible she would know and how far along she may be.
Why does it seem fishy? This seems quite an unfair comment. She may well be in shock and all these pregnancy hormones flying around can make you quite emotional etc so if she choses not to discuss it further yet, that is her business. She may wish she had kept it to herself a little longer, for various reasons, hence not wishing to talk anymore.
You shouldn't be so quick to judge, how would you/your friend feel if you were to find out your friends son is the father?
Maybe, she has found herself pregnant, maybe not knowing for sure who is the father and decided to 'pin it on him' but this wouldn't be my immediate thought :( It's not about what your friend wants/feels at the moment anyway, it's about her son and his girlfriend/girl he is seeing and how they are feeling. :)

Regardless of when she found out, if the fist day of her last period was four weeks ago, then she would be four weeks' pregnant now. And the new tests can tell you before you miss your period in some cases. So it's totally possible for him to be the father, but as MrsTine said only when the dating scan is done will you have a better idea, and even then really I'd say only a DNA test will tell you for sure.

What I always wonder is why men are so quick to try to wriggle out of responsibility?
