What I always wonder is why men are so quick to try to wriggle out of responsibility?

I don't think he is, is he? Surely he just wants to be sure.

I think his mum is just in shock, hence the reason for the post. We don't know if the son is trying to wriggle out of it....could just be his mum to try and make his life easier. Or perhaps there's no wriggling at all and its just an attempt to make sure they know the truth before they get all hooked on the baby.

she has a son who has started seeing this girl, been seeing her 4 weeks and apparently shes 4 weeks pregnant and saying its her sons. just a bit confused at how this is so - as pthers have explained, the dates go from first day of last period, so she would be classed as 4 weeks pg just 2 weeks after baby was conceived.
and how she would no so early on,first response pg test can tell you a few days before your period is even due - as does early morning sickness etc. this girl is saying shes been to doctors who would not have done an extra pg test, the shop bought ones are very accurate these days but wont say anything else and shes refusing to talk to my friend, she is probably shocked, terrified, scared of talking to anyone right now and is hoping it's all just a bad dreamjust seems a bit fishy to me, any enlightenment, whats the earliest date you would know of pregnancy, (been a long time since i did it, ) been trying to tell friend not the end of the world it's not the end of the world for her son - he will be able to go to college/Uni etc, but it's going to be a lot harder for the girl to do the same but she is inconsolable as will the girl be, I'm sure!

At least the young girl has been sensible and gone to he doctor - she will be adviesd of conselling etc available to help her make the decision that's right for her. Try to get your friend to be calm and rational, and not treat he rlike she's trying to trap her son - this may come back to haunt her in later years when she wants access to her grandchild.;)

Well if they had sex in her most fertile period which is half way through her cycle then she could know as early as two weeks later that she was pregnant.

Yes, 4 weeks pregnant would mean conception occurred about two weeks previously. Some pregnancy tests can pick up a positive that early on. So yes, he could be the father but there's no way of telling for sure until after the birth and a DNA test is done.

Are there any reasons to suspect that the girl might not be being entirely truthful?

Will it be just the mother being over protective of her son? They have been together for 4 weeks, and if she is 4 weeks pregnant - that means she conceived in this cycle. I wouldn't want to talk with the mother of the son either - as at that age it would be just as big, if not bigger shock to me. Maybe even her own parents don't know yet - and here his mother starts accusing me!

  • I agree with Jinky67, although i had been close friends with my other half for years we hadn't been together very long at all when i got pregnant, we didn't plan it it was a complete shock to both of us, i don't see why that automatically means she is lying, nor does it mean that they were 'stupid enough to have unprotected sex'. Those are both very narrow minded views!

Being in a similar situation myself i found out i was pregnant at 6 weeks, my OH never doubted the child was his thankfully but his mother did, she told him he was an idiot and the child wasn't even his. More fool her because she is the one that now misses out on her grandchilds life, tread carefully before making accusations as if you are wrong you will get hurt because your child and his girlfriend may not be willing to forgive, and if you are right your son will need your support but jumping to conclusions at this stage is not the right thing to do.

I do hope your son isn't being used though, good luck!

pregnancy dates are calculated from the date of the last period. 4 weeks pregnant is when your period would be due. You can get a positive on a test from 10 days after ovulation. If she was 4 weeks pregnant, she could well know - her period would be late and she could have had a positive pregnancy test. Ovulation happens around 2 weeks before a period is due, usually but sperm can live inside the uterus for upto a week. So, if he slept with her about one and a half to 3 weeks ago, it could be his and will be his unless she's slept with someone else, then it could be either of theirs. Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply guys, my friend knows of the family but not personally and the mother of this girl has infact 9 children by 6 fathers (yes in this day and age it happens) the situation is queried due to this girl also having other relations with 2 other boys and also this girl being apparently pregnant to every boyfriend she has had, sad i know.

according to her she has in the past been 'pregnant' a total of 8 times and on one occasion is said to of punched it out of herself at 8 months, these are the tales this girl has said. this is why its so complex, after everything yes they were are two teenagers, condom did split, but she has serious issues, IF she is pregnant, by her son or whoever, there is more that needs investigating, i feel that this girls mother (single parent, all respect to them) has had little time for this girl and what better way to get attention. its all a sad sorry tale and a true one at that.

i will keep you informed as to what happens
