Hi All,
Im a newbie here. I'm a firstime mum to my beautiful girl and struggling as we all are with money. I foolishly opened a credit card with Halifax 6 years ago when I was a student. I have spoken to them several times over the years about helping with payments to no avail. To cut a long story short...
I was being charged £50 a month in charges as £25 late payment and £25 being over my limit. I was over due to charges! The trouble is I closed the account but have still been paying off the minimum payment. But still being charged for being over my limit, even though I have advised them that I am a stay at home mother recieving £72.00 a month child tax credit and £60 something Child benefit. My partners income covers all bills with £50 left afetr food shopping telepohne ect.
Anyhow. Has anyone had experiance of claiming from Halifax? I have had no sucess with them over various things in the past and just need reassurance and guidence.
Any help greatfully appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Jannine

Hi
I successfully claimed from Hellifax last month. This is what I did.
I phoned customer relations and asked for a list of charges - I was advised these would follow within 40 days.
A few weeks later I received a letter saying they were offering me £200ish as a goodwill gesture.
As I had never received info on my charges I phoned them to ask what my original charges amounted to.
I was advised that they amounted to £650. I told the lady I wanted the £650.
She said she would escalate the claim.
6 weeks later I got a letter offering the full amount.
The number for Hellifax Customer Relations is: 0845 1241 362
Give it a go, you have nothing to lose. The money is yours and you will get it back if you are persistent.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for that. So rather than sending them the letter with the £10. I should call them and request a copy of all my charges? Do I tell them that I am looking to reclaim?
Sorry I have never done anything like this before, and have ALWAYS been fobbed off by Halifax. They also charged me £50 for being £9 over my overdraft years ago!! I promtly closed my account, all in all I actully hate Halifax!!!
Sorry t o be a pain!!

Yes just give them a ring. Why send a tenner when you can get it free? No need to tell them you are planning on claiming but they'll know that anyway when you ask for the info.0

Well, finally plucked up the courage to call Halifax- would you believe I broke out in a sweat and was shaking! I have had nightmares over money owed to these people, my balance is at £1100+ and my credit limit is £500 all the extra is charges. Anyway they sent me through to complaints and will get a list of charges with-in a week. So will have to see what happens. Will probably be on here again soon asking for advice. Do I ask for the full amount of all of the charges? Not too sure what to do next. Good luck Harriets mum!Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:0 -
Yes ask for the full amount of all the charges. They will come back with some ridiculous offer. When you get that offer ring customer relations and tell them you want the whole lot. They will then "escalate" your claim and you should get a letter within a few weeks offering the full amount.
Good luck0 -
Hi,
Well recieved a list of charges...
£1580 so what interest do I need to add? Do I add interest to that?
Also what would be the next step please?
Many Thanks

Use the calculator. Type in each and every charge and it will calculate the interest. Then send letter 1 to customer relations. You'll find the calculator and Letter 1 here:
