Had to pay 90 quid for a Tooth even though I have a private dental plan :( so that's all my savings for January disappeared.

Student loan is nearly gone though :) Only 1 more month to go! Then It will be gold medals all the way.

  • Ive got membership of COMMSAVE credit union . Its a credit union for postal workers in the midlands . I find it a great way of saving as i pay in part of my wages every week and because it comes straight out of my wages i don't physically have to pay it in each week .Also ive got used to my wages being slightly lower each week so i dont miss the money paid in .

If you have a friend or family member who is also with Paypal, you can instantly send them money for their birthday, Xmas pressie etc which I also find useful.
It's worth making sure you get a Personal PayPal account, as otherwise you pay fees to receive money through PayPal.

This page explains the difference between the types of PayPal accounts you can get.

Yep - forgot to say that the Personal account is the one I have and would recommend that one x

  • Re Paypal account .

It all depends on what you're using it for . If ,for instance , you expect to sell alot of items through on-line auctions such as ebay , then accepting payments by credit cards as well as debit cards could potencially attract more sales .
With a personal account you are limited to the amount of debit / credit cards you can accept throughout the year .
As i say it all depends on what you are going to use your paypal account for

I think eBay make it pretty much impossible to even occasionally sell items with a personal PayPal account.

There's nothing stopping you having two PayPal accounts - a personal for receiving money from family/friends/quidco and a premier/business for ebaying.

PayPal specifically state that is OK (but they need to have different e-mail addresses).

I do subscribe to Moneywise, I find it's the only magazine, aside from Good Housekeeping, that I read from cover 2 cover. It is easy to understand and gives loads of tips. Martin also writes in this magazine.

Thanks Angelselondon - I have just subscribed to MoneyWise
  • Hi All - Can i join?!?!?!

Just been browsing through and noticed this thread - i may not be able to save much per month as we only have one income coming in, but i try to get us to stick to a budget. We are ultimately saving to pay off the mortgage - our mortgage at the moment only allows us to pay off lump sums of £500+, so that is what i am aiming at, at present. I have £230 and need to reach £500 by May (when we remortgage again; we do it every two years).

We have £3000 savings in NS&I ISA and another £3000 in a building society (8%) i think; i also drip feed £250 a month into a Barclays regular savers account at 10%.

I think that is all, not hugh amounts i know, but to quote Tesco....

    Anyway, thanks for reading!!
