Can Anyone Suggest A Cheap / Free Pick-Me-Up?

My favorite pick me up is to go to the library and get out loads of books to lose myself in.
I also used to be addicted to expensive magazines but I've started visiting ivillage.co.uk and handbag.com instead. The best things in life aren't things.0 -
What an ace thread! - I too scour the Freebies page (Nothing nicer than getting stuff through the post!), especially for the cinema tickets.. Take your own popcorn and drinkies and a free (or v cheap) night out is to be had :j
I also love having a treaty bath, then its clean jimmy jams, a glass of wine and stick a comedy dvd on :T
And finally, my ultimate comfort when things just get to bad to bear (small confession coming) I have the winnie the pooh stories on cd, narrated by judi Dench & Michael Williams with Stephen Fry as Pooh Bear and Jane Horrocks as Piglet and Geoffrey Palmer as Eeyore. You don't often get as good casting as that! :rotfl:0 -
Hopefully you have a park nearby. I try to find time each day for a 10-20 minute stroll through our local park, looking around at the plants and wildlife. It never fails to lift my spirits and it helps to put things in perspective.0

Ahem.....:o
I too enjoy a book, bath, wine etc.
But really only 1 thing guaranteed to lift me.......
oh to hell with it......
I PUT THE SOUND OF MUSIC DVD ON AND SING MY HEART OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(ESPECIALLY DOE A DEER:j )
(AND MY FAVORITE THINGS:rotfl: )
BUT NOT EDELWEISS AT THE MUSIC FESTIVAL - ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY:(
AND ALWAYS END UP WITH HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA:dance:
Gulp.... feel better now I've come clean.... actually, think might tape it, then can combine with bath & wine!:j I may never be seen again! (but if I am will be v clean wrinkled prune.....)
Don't knock it till you've tried it......
ps good luck by the way.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Thanks everyone - I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I came in feeling lousy with a dose of flu and it has really cheered me up.
What I try to do when I'm feeling down is remember how I felt last time I was really pleased with myself. It needn't be a big thing, but some things just never fail to make you smile. I think Moo will know what I mean by this!0 -
Hey Ive just worked out what the perfect pick me up would be ...... a signed copy of Martins book
Thanks for all the ideas, its much apprieciated:jDebt Free At Last!:j0 -
I can sign my copy if you like ... your choice !!

My best pick me up is singing in the car - anything fairly uptempo. At the moment I am playing a lot of McFly (nope, no kids, yep, in my thirties - hey, why not!)
I get a lot of satisfaction sometimes from taking the time to put on make-up. For one it's a change from scrubbing it hastily on my face before shooting out the door, and for another you just look at yourself at the end and fool yourself that suddenly you *feel* better!
Don't be too hard on yourself about diets. It's hard enough to watch spending and living, then to stress about food as well. On the other hand - if you are liking the feeling of spending control, you might get some satisfaction from keeping a food diary and feeling you've got a working plan. Btw - a pomegranate is a brilliant treat, at worst they cost about 89p. I top and tail them, score the skin, break apart, then prise all the seeds into a bowl and eat it with a spoon. It's very good for you and yummy
If you like to keep your mind occupied, as someone suggested before, puzzles are great. As well as all the crosswords and sudoku online, conceptis puzzles are brilliant logic picture puzzles and they put up new free ones each week.
Lastly, search the boards for info on Pigsback - it is a shopping portal site where you get some points for clicking to look at offers. It's a nice community on the thread and you could earn some treats that fall outside of the realm of actual money.
Hope some of this is helpful.Do I Need One Stops All Unnecessary Reckless Spending£2 CSC - £30 :kisses3:0 -
Hi, I'm at the same place as you and life is grim mostly. Someone gave me a book called "A Bit on the Side" by Jasmine Birtles - no sex involved (although there's another free past time!) Its got loads of ideas for making some extra money, so could you pay off your debts a bit quicker or be able to treat yourself in a small way now and then. See if Amazon have a used copy or maybe your library has one. Best of luckchockychocky :A0

Hiya,
Feeling a bit low myself - as well as money worries I've got the flu too. There are loads of brilliant boosters on this thread, though.I like to put some music on,something lively and I sing along very loudly(the neighbours love it!)
A nice, hot bath with a 99p sachet face mask and then I'll pluck my eyebrows and moisturise. If you look good, you feel good.
Coming on here always makes me feel better. There's always lots of help and advice, and general morale-boosting going on,and it helps to know that you are not the only one in the doldrums.
Any hey! Spring's on the way!
Best wishes,everyone.
