I had a coupn for a free sample of Philadelphia Extra Light, went to the local Tesco and couldn't find it so bought normal Philly and handed in the coupon to see if the cashier noticed she scanned the voucher and I ended up getting the Philly for free and a further 27p knocked off my shopping as well............good result methinks0

I think that it is safe to say after reading some of the posts on here that a few Tesco's must have different policys on what coupons that they will/will not accept.
As my Tesco seems to be with the majority and you can take one coupon off, even if you havent bought the item and if you want to use more than one of the same coupon you have to buy the product. But as far as i am aware you could pay for all of your shopping with coupons, as long as they are all different, in date and that Tesco sell the product. There seems to be the same policy with our EXTRA store too.
So all i would advise is if you are unsure, ask at the customer service desk what that particular policy is for accepting coupons. I have worked at Tesco for 7 1/2yrs and this policy has been in place for a few years.January GC £33/200

Yes Ive only discovered it over the past month or so, but have already saved a fortune. Have saved about £12 today with using coupons so am really pleased. I would mention that this was in a store, who last week said they could only take 2 coupons, so keep trying thats all I can say!!2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

I really don't get it! The operator scans the coupon in, the machine accepts or rejects it. I would have thought that all Tesco machines worked the same software, but obviously not! Last week at a Tesco Extra, the machine rejected coupons where I didn't buy the product, this week at a smaller Tesco, the machine accepted ones that last weeks rejected! and I still didn't buy the product!
Tesco tills do all work the same. The till will only reject coupons with a beep if:
a. They are Tesco-issued coupons and you didn't buy the product, or
b. If Tesco don't stock the item at all, anywhere, or
c. If they've blocked that coupon on the till (e.g. Daily Mail book token), or
d. You are using a self-scan and haven't pressed 'finish & pay', or
e. On a till, if the SA hasn't pressed 'total' (if just subtotalled, MOCs won't scan).
The most common is e, sometimes done deliberately by the SA if they don't want you to use your coupons. When they try it with me I ask them to press total again please. If they still don't then I ask them to put their light on for a Supervisor to help - suddenly the SA then presses total!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

What is 'CSM Daily Updates' ?
CSM = Customer Service Manager.
Apparently stores are sent a Daily Update from HO and this was where the correct coupon policy was stated last year. Some stores didn't read it, unfortunately, but many are aware of the policy, like oliviarosejackson's store that she works for (see her post above for the correct national policy).
In fact it has been the policy for years but it was often unclear whether the 'one coupon' wording meant one altogether or one of each. Last year's CSM info made it clear it's one of each, but since then there does seem to be 'store discretion' creeping in if you try querying the policy with Dundee or a store.PRIVATE 'PCN'? Yes, i am the same Judy, i use as many as i can with each shop. Every cashier is different too, some will take off whatever you give them and others can be very strict on what they will/will not take off for you.January GC £33/200
