Recently back from Vegas myself, in my opinion the strat is too far from the main strip. For value for money taking into consideration the location, accomodation, quality and facilities, I'd always go with the Luxor. Booked mine on http://www.vegas-promotions.com/ and at the time got an average rate of around $55 nite but that included a tower upgrade. Thats just my opinion though, everyone has their own criteria.

However, do go to the strat for the rides at the top, I thought they were lots of fun!

    Have a good time!

Ooohh I stayed in the Stratosphere just there in September and it is fabulous! I don't know why people are saying it's not in the 'nicest part of the strip' - there was absolutely nothing wrong with where it was and we walked home plenty of times with no trouble. It is right around the corner from a monorail station so you can catch that down to the other ends of the strip if you want to. I had no problem with the location and/or the hotel.

There's a ladies only rooftop swimming area and the other swimming area is absolutely amazing - such good views. I loved it, I really did - rooms were MASSIVE, clean, and if you can try get quite a high room then the views are amazing

hope you have a fantastic tme, I'm so jealous!

Been a few times and yes, the Strat is fairly far from the action either at the 'new' end of the strip (venetian, bellagio, etc) and the old Freemont Street.
I have stayed in a few places but for budget I would recommend the Plaza in Freemont street. Perfectly good and value for money and you're amongst the 'old vegas' IMO.

  • I think it would be an OK hotel to stay in if you're on a tight budget. I would not walk back there at night though as you do pass through some slightly 'rough' areas. Cabs are pretty cheap, and it's not worth risking your safety to save £10. The restaurant at the top is pretty cool, it rotates and you get wicked views. Take it easy on the cocktails though. Rotating restaurant and too much booze is soooooo not a good mix. Hope you have a fab time!

    Hi Trust,
Just reading through this years posts and I have stayed at The Rio in June 2007. Wrote rather a long report on Trip Advisor - I have attached a link below if you are interested.

Trets: maybe add the above two things to the first post :)

Personally I would not take kids to Vegas not becasue I disagree with kids in Vegas as some do but because it would interfere with my enjoyment looking after them and I woudl not want my kids to see all the drunks and porno cards and ads on the trucks for !!!!!s that go up and down the strip.
I agree actually, the worst thing about Vegas by far is that... everyone knows it has the 'sin' element to the city, but the fact some people want to shove it down your throat really gets my goat... it's the persistance, the flicking, and the lining either side of the street gathered together in huge numbers that gets me! I didn't take a card from the first person, why would i take one from the middle one or the last!!! *argh*

and don't even get my started on that truck that drives up and down 24 hours a day!!! i swear the 'lady' on it used to be a man!!!

edit: this one (sorry, if offends I will remove it --- however as we are all vegas'ians(?) i'm sure we've all seen it a million times!)

edit #2: actually, i'll just put links in instead of displaying the images - incase it's deemed a bit 'dodgy' for those people at work! :)
