More tips for camping, if you dont have a camping fridge. Freeze water in 2 litre bottles and put in your coolbag/box. Food will stay cold in there for up to 4 days depending on the weather outside.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I tell you what though Math, it might be worth getting a small slow cooker just for the caravan. You'll be having lots of days out and about, come home tired and hungry and have any kind of meal you like waiting for you in your slow cooker. Absolutely ideal for caravan/camping!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I've found our about a couple of excellent car boots nearby so I may just be tempted:rolleyes: to go on a slo-cooker hunt (you can always pick them up at car boots). I'll be there with the kidz on my own quite a bit so you're right after a day out and about, a hot ready meal would be great - especially early and late season.Life's a beach! We used to go caravanning when the kids were small, and loved it. I used to make a stew with a tin of stewed steak, a tin of carrots, a tin of peas and a thin of New potatoes all in the same pot! Amazing what you'll eat when you're hungry!
I used to cook mainly what I cooked at home, and always did a roast on Sunday, (we were quite poor at the time, and couldn't afford to eat out)
Experiment is the answer.
I had a copy of your book too, it was really invaluable, and we also had the caravan that's in the photos!!! A 1970 Sprite Major, it was old, but it worked!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Oh I love a bit of camping I do :j
Not really cooking tips but may be handy.
If you're taking small children make sure that they have plenty of warm clothes/bedding because at night the temparature drops dramatically.
Buy a spare groundsheet from a pound shop for the 'entrance' to your tent as it can get muddy after a couple of days.
Flattened cardboard boxes are good mats for leaving your muddy shoes on before you get into the sleeping bit of your tent.
Take your stuff in plastic boxes as cardboard ones go soggy on the ground.
If you're taking airbeds make sure that you have a puncture repair kit and a foot pump.
If you don't have a hook inside your tent to hang your light on, sew a loop of thread on one of the top seams.
Buy a wind-break to cover the entrance to your tent, for a bit of privacy.
Invest in a stand for your camping cooker, it's no fun squatting down to fry your bacon or lying on the grass to see if you're toast's done.
Have a sealed tub for your butter, biccies, bread etc as ants and other bugs will 'find' them.
Get rid of your rubbish every night or you may find cats and foxes rooting through your bin bags.
Take a wasing up bowl to carry your pots to the sinks.
Don't forget a lighter or matches to light your cooker with

We always take our George Grill with us if we go to stay in a caravan
Apart from the fantastic toasties for breakfast its fab for grilling meat on too. Or burger if its raining!!Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
One food I always associate with childhood camping holidays is butterscotch Angel Delight
Mum used to make 'trifle' made from sliced bananas, crushed chocolate digestives and butterscotch angel delight made with dried milk, who needs a fridge?
sigh - memory lane eh?0 -

Didn't know there was any other flavour of Angel Delight (or other shop makes) - only kidding, just the best flavour ever! Please don't ever tell my daughter, as it was the only flavour I ever bought, she is a deprived child and will probably sue me in years to come!0
