I found this for you:
http://freeview.co.uk/features/transmission
Though you've probably read it already.
It doesn't sound as though you would have much of a case against Daewoo if the box stopped working due to circumstances beyond their control.
This is my whole point though. It's NOT beyond their control. As I've stated several times already the box claims to be DVB compliant. If it was, and I've already explained the technicalities of this in my first post, it would have rolled with the update and no problem.
Because it hasn't, it's not DVB compliant, Daewoo have falsely claimed it is and in turn registered it as such with the DVB Organisation and stated it is under the 'Legal Notices' section of their user manual.
That's the crux of my argument, I appreciate the comments so far but it's clear from a couple of posts that people haven't taken time to read my argument in full.0 -
I can understand you're annoyed, and I can assure you that I have read all that you posted.
Does "DVB compliant" mean something different now than it did a few years ago?
Have the DVB standards changed?
What technical changes did the NIT update implement?
Because if it was DVB compliant when you purchased it, but it is not anymore, I don't think you'd have a case against Deawoo unless you could show that it would have been reasonable for Daewoo to include support for the last NIT update at the time the box was manufactured.
If Daewoo manufactured the box knowing that in a few years there would be an update rendering it non-DVB compliant, then you'd have a case against them.0 -
Ironic that my old On-digital box (2003) is unaffected by the recent changes (although I have never been able to get all the text services), my sisters 2 yo box is screwed.Move along, nothing to see.0

The Daewoo boxes were sold as DVB compliant. Problem is they were only sort-of DVB compliant, not 'fully' as the manual describes. There hasn't been any real update of sorts, all that's happened is the NIT has been expanded. Any box that was originally designed to be fully compliant (which is why the old On Digital boxes work fine after the update) will accept it and carry on.
The Setpal range of boxes, including Daewoo, have now been proven to use a stripped down form of DVB compliancy. This is generally, so I've been lead to believe, down to a lack of memory in the units to keep costs down. This means on the old NIT where the table was reasonably small it coped, and that's what it was designed to do, cope with what was out there, not future-proof.
Therefore simply because it worked with the old NIT and it doesn't now, means it isn't fully DVB compliant; if it was then just like all the old On Digital boxes it would still be working today. The update hasn't rendered it non-DVB compliant, it never was truly DVB compliant as we've now seen. Daewoo's corner cutting has come back to bite them on the bum and I'm not letting this one go.0 -
I notice that Panasonic aren't on the list of affected boxes but ours is completely scrambled since a rescan last week.
I have BBC 3 on Channel 1, News 24 on 2 and BBCi on 5 ! The screen is blank for alot of other channels :mad:0 -
Our Daewoo Setpal stopped working around 3 weeks ago after a channel scan, the box cost us £80 at the time of purchase and I have to say that I feel cheated. (That's being polite).0

IMPORTANT NEWS. This, to me, is an admission of liability from Daewoo.
You'll see from my previous posts Daewoo offered me an equivalent model for £19.99. I demanded a free replacement as it's their fault the unit is not DVB compliant, not MDOL's fault for upgrading the transmitter network as had Daewoo's unit been DVB compliant in the first place it would have handled the upgrade.
I threatened Daewoo with legal action to get a free replacement.
Through another forum a journalist contacted me to follow my side of the story and I've kept them posted. I also informed Daewoo I had been contacted by a journalist and needed urgent action from them to decide what my next steps would be.
Today my FREE REPLACEMENT arrived. Daewoo arranged for the old unit to be collected by the courier at the same time they delivered my replacement.
This is important stuff. To me this opens the floodgates for all those estimated 250,000 other unit owners which this upgrade rendered units useless to fight for a free replacement.
As a result, I'd urge you if your equipment has been knocked out by the transmitter upgrade and your equipment manufacturer is trying to wash their hands of you, FIGHT THEM. Especially if it's Daewoo as they've now issued a free replacement to me following a bit of a fight.
It's not on for companies to produce something, market it as compliant then when it blatantly isn't they think they do not have to stand by that product any more. Please post your feedback on this and any action you take here.0 -
Thanks CS..;)
Well done.0 -
The journalist I have been speaking with has suggested they approach Daewoo to state now they've replaced one they should replace everyone's and I've agreed to them suggesting this. I hope everyone here is now encouraged to put the pressure on and remind companies they have a duty to stand by their product and make sure it does what it should before selling it.0

I've got a Sony 28" Digital TV, which lost the signal on Wednesday - I put it down to the foul weather, but last night when the sun was shining and the picture was still blocking I retuned it and I've now lost all ITV and Channel 4 channels - good news though I can still get BBC and Channel 5!.
I spoke to my local aerial installer and he reckons because I was an early adopter of Digital the recent 'upgrade' means my Telly is now knackered. Choices are get a box or a new Telly or Sky I suppose - !!!!!!!0
