If I use my Nationwide Debit card to buy the money from travelex online (to pick up at the airport) , do Nationwide charge for this ?

NO. And *I think* other debit cards do not charge you too. However it is still better to use your Nationwide Debit card to withdraw money abroad than to buy currency from travelex. You will save more than 2%.

EDIT: what I thought about other debit cards appeared to be wrong. See my post #21 below.

...www.travelex.co.uk ... don't use a Visa card though, I did and was charges an extra £20!!!
It is more correct to say 'Do not use credit card'.

I just want to use travelex to get a small amount of euros. I need to pay a cash deposit on the apartment as soon as I get there and I don't want to have to worry about finding a cashpoint machine

It would be except it was a Visa Delta card (debit card for my Smile account).

If you've got a Nationwide card just use that abroad as it will be cheaper than using Travelex.

    I'm none the wiser here.

if I use my Nationwide Debit card (visa delta ?) to pay for travelex online currency then will I pay cash allowance fee ? I can't find anything on the Nationwide site unfortunately.

I've used my Nationwide debit card to buy currency from Travelex and have NOT been charged for doing so, so you will be fine.

    I was wrong :o . Examples:
    Barclays:
'Obtaining cash, foreign currency or travellers cheques anywhere other than a cash machine or Barclays branch 1.5% (min £1.50, max £4.50) '

    Smile:
'withdrawals from VISA ATM machines, which do not display the LINK symbol 2% or £2* (whichever is the greater)

    * please note that the purchase of travellers cheques or foreign currency with the card is subject to the same handling charge.'

And they call this 'award winning current account'

I think this list can be continued.

Thank you, fatboyonadiet for enlightening ...
