payplan have to make charges to cover the cost of their services, they are not a charity. This is why I suggested CCCS or CAB. Can you call them please, as they may be able to help you despite the money situation.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Sky, broadband package too high see if you can negotiate them down any, if you are up for renewal i would look around. talk talk doone for all calls, and broadband for under 20 a month- sky could then be cut completely and used as freeveiw saving over 40 a month.
Life insurance, is this a necessity? if it is look around for a cheaper policy using board techniques.
mobile can definately be reduced- some tarrifs are very cheap, and if under contract renegotiate or use pay as you go, its not always a necessity, i just use mine for emergencies- about 10 every 10 months.

    Hi everyone,

    Mortgage 700
Council Tax - 102 Is it just you (adult)- are you getting the single person 25% discount?
    Gas/electric - 54
    Water rates - 39
    Building/contents - 20
Telephone/Sky/Broadband - 60 I pay £20 for all this from Virgin, £30 is the max you should need? Phone and negotiate.
Life insurance - 33 Do you have to have this? Ditch it if not compulsary for your mortgage
Mobile - 60 Much too much - can you change? 3 have great deals for £15 - seems the cheapest tariff at the moment - or PAYG
Food - 150 This is low - well done!
    Car tax/insurance/fuel etc - 60

  • Why not try a comparison site to see if you can get gas/electric, car/home/life insurance cheaper. There re plenty of sites that will be listed on here. You should be able to get a cheaper contract on your mobile.I pay £23.50 a month to virgin which includes freeview tv, broadband and phone with free evening and weekend calls to landlines, so my bill is never much more than the £23.50 (although there will be set up cost for tv and broadband).I buy all my fruit and veg from my local fruit and veg shop, it is so much cheaper than supermarkets and keeps for longer as it is not refrigerated in the shop.Try joining the survey sites that you will find recommended on moneysaving expert. It's not a way to make lots of money, but the occasional voucher is handy
  • Hi guys

Still havent made "the move" as yet...........well, not properly.

Just got a shock when I spoke to MBNA today. Told them I wanted to come to some "arrangement" with them. The lady was nice, but when she put me through to another department everything went haywire............. They told me that my credit rating would be affected (yes, I knew that) and that I would have problems when getting a mortgage etc. I know I dont want anymore credit EVER, but I need to get a good mortgage rate for next year and really cant afford to go onto a higher than normal rate.

How can i overcome this guys...............Is there no where I can get a consolidation loan and just have one outgoing every month (obvoiusly cutting up all my cards). I would sleep so much better then. I am in the process of cutting back on everything again.

What to do, what to do...............
  • its a mine field isnt it? which way you go has to be the way that brings you peace of mind and sanity-priceless (was going to say for everything else theres B"*£*!"card-(repeat after me-credit cards are evil..)
had my lbm moment december 30th this year and found this site in the early hours in the depths of despair-was treading water n maxed out-where to turn.
i read and absorbed, dmp, iva etc etc
then dug everything out and found some horrors and finanacial blood n guts n nightmares. i thought momentarily about the pros of going to sleep n staying there but this soon passed i have people i love 2 much..
so what did i do? def not what some people would advise but for me it was the best soliution
    i was paying £470 mortgage
and nearly £800 a month on loans and credit cards and they wernt going down as i needed them to live on each month!!!!!! horror
i had 100k equity in my home so upped my mortgage to pay off loans and cards-payment is now £680 a month -saving £590 a month
i can now affrod all my payments, have cut up n cancelled 4 cards, opaid off 3 catalogues
i have one emergency credit card on 0% but havent used it and will try not to ever
when my 3 year deal ends i shall renegotiate to the best deal i can get and start to overpay to reduce my mortagage as quick as poss
in the meantime i have swapped and reduced so many insurnces, utilities, phones etc i am dizzy but made over £200 on quidco and sold loads on e bay
i feel relieved and alive again
i have a finance file and i check n double check everything
i will never get into the same mess again-i never want to feel so scared and poerless
today was a gr8 day i closed all the creidt card accounts-just waiting for zero staements took a while but the relief and feeling of power when i closed them and rebuffed their offers of this and that to stay...
so the answer is find a solution that fits you financially and mentally-one you feel you can live and sleep with
i know my home is now potentially at risk if i slip back-enough to stop me i can assure you BUT this solution gives me £300 a month which i am saving now (in an account quidco paid me £20 to open)
so sit down write down all your options and find sporters own way through but remember if you consolidate YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR WAYS or you'll be back to square one before you can say 'do you take this credit card??'

If you look on this site I asked the same question about consolidation of my debts to the house as it would save me something like £400 a month. The proposed new mortgage was a fixed rate interest only for 2 years so the £400+ savings were going to be saved / invested to help grow so we could pay off a lumper after the two years.......................... 1 week before we were due to get an offer the tax credits stopped, £470 a month and we were also overpaid by £800.... The savings / investment money has disappeared and we would have had the debts on the house. with hindsight we will probably still be able to pay the new mortgage but now there is a worry each month that the mortgage is going to be paid let alone the added bit as it would have been.
Sporter, just be careful that remortgaging sounds good, I was in love truly and madly with the idea of one payment each month but then the other priority bills such as water, council tax, gas, elec would take the place of the unsecured debts......

Be strong and empowered but way up all things first and then re check your decision.

  • Switch your mobile & tv etc to the lowest tariff and maybe see if you can get the motivation to sell some stuff that you don't need.

I'm just watching BBC iPlayer when I have time, it's quite good.
