This thread is for any discussions on the Tesco policy regarding misprices. Please don't post misprice items in this thread but you can chat away to your heart's content here, leaving the other thread just for listing the 'finds'
Any misprices you find should be posted in this thread here
Thanks
For new readers:
the Tesco policy on signs instore is :-
"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"
Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.
Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:
Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?
The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

Yep or they use the other thread.
Even this may not work.0 -
Redfox. good solution, but lots of work for you if people continue to discuss in the other thread. And hopefully people will read your explanation of the policy in your first post as people are always unsure about the policy wording.
Oh well, suck it and see I guess!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Quick question - I can see the policy and I have used it to my benefit which has saved me lots of money and has been great. However, I just wondered when was this policy implemented, is it a recent introduction ?

Do you think that the policy will be worded differently/changed soon ?

So from early eighties to last year I could have had the many underpriced goods for free?! I'd always just thought myself lucky they were less than I was expecting!
This policy would have helped me out so much as a student...I'd have enjoyed it so much more then, but hey, I had no time to think about dull things like money then!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Just tried this out for the first time in Tesco Express, Chiswick High Road. I found Thin Beef Steak cheaper on the shelf than the packet (have posted in the relevant thread) so took all 5 packets to the checkout and sure enough, they went through at the higher price. As its an Express, there was no customer service area, so I spok directly to the manager. I had to show him the label on the shelf and then he said he would either refund the difference or give me my money back but keep the items. When I explained Tesco's pricing policy to him (!) he still refused to believe me so I sent him off to speak to head office. He did make me feel very uncomfortable and was quite agressive about the whole thing. 10 minutes later he came back and gave me the refund but was not exactly apologetic. There was also lean mince beef priced £2.00 on the shelf and £2.01 on the packet but I was too embarrassed to try and get that refunded so I don't know what the price was throught he till (no scanning machines).
Anyway, very glad I did stand my ground and next time I will be taking along a copy of the policy from their website.0 -
I'm postively *fuming* at the moment - - although having just rattled off the first draft of a letter to Tesco's Head Office I feel I've got some of it off my chest now.
Short story is:
Bought some packs of meat which had a large price on the shelf missing the 'per kilo' admittedly not far from the usual small one which did show it correctly.
Duty Manager repeatedly refused to accept that this was misleading - although strangely he did say that he took the sign down and I forgot to argue that nuance in the heat of the moment. (Yes it certainly *did* get heated, but that's the longer story.)
Anyway, he wasn't budging so I only had the "I shall contact Head Office" option left. Despite his initial refusals I managed to extract a statement saying that the large sign *was* actually on display at the time I purchased the items, otherwise I can imagine that fact conveniently fading from his memory. (I had to threaten to get myself arrested before I got that signed statement though!)
He did admit at one point that he was only 'standing in' for the duty manager and I saw that he was actually a 'Security Manger' (sic) from his badge. Incidentally, I'd rather not mention which store this was because he was built like a bouncer and I wouldn't want a 'visit' from the boys after this.
I'll certainly telephone Head Office tomorrow and see what they have to say about it, with a view to sending off my stinky letter! This too, shall pass.0 -
I had a similiar type of problem. Phone head office and it should be sorted.
Just one word of advice to you and to everyone else:
Dont ever ever ever lose your temper, become aggresive or even start to raise your voice.....this is the easiest way for them to have a get out clause ie. The customer became aggresive thats why I didnt give the refund.
I always greet the manager when he comes over, smile and make sure my actions are kept to a bare minimum (cctv), as the conversation continues I always start lowering my voice instead of heating up....
Just my penny's worth0
