Just to say that, as you are leaving your line rental with BT anyway, you've nothing to lose by 'upgrading' to the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan (BT Together Option 2) which, if you agree to the 12 month renewable contract, will cost you nothing but will give you free evening calls too.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

You could adapt the Tart Alert Facility to remind you when the rolling contract is nearly up. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/credit-card-tart0

Excellent idea Utilitybroker; why didn't I think of that?
Am going to do that straight away.
Go to the top of the class.No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
But I was thinking of those Option 1 customers who may not or cannot read any mail shot that BT intends to send out, so would be oblivious to the fact their weekday evening call will be costing them up to a quid after the 1st April.
The price rise wasn't mentioned AT ALL in the letter they sent trumpetting the lovely new free weekend calls. It was only in the small print of a separate leaflet.
Yes I know we should still read everything but I do think it's very misleading to give such a great prominance to one change over the other. I didn't know about the evening call increase until I saw it mentioned on another forum. It was very very easy to miss.0 -

And that small print is disgustingly small. I wonder how people much younger and with better eyesight than me coped. Also, the line length didn't aid in seeking and digesting the information.Yes I know we should still read everything but I do think it's very misleading to give such a great prominance to one change over the other. If you sign up to the rolling 12 month contract to get free evening calls too, you don't stay on Option 1, you change to the 'Evening & Weekend Calls Plan' (Option 2).
It's a possible alternative to Primus Saver Option 2 but there are drawbacks:
1. 12 month contract (obviously);
2. No Penny Mobile 2 twenty minute calls/diverts to mobiles for a fixed 20p;
3. Free calls limited to 60 minutes before re-dialling (the Primus limit is 90 minutes).
OTOH, it'd be one less bill so, if that is important to you ......0 -
I tried to switch from BT Option 1 to BT Option 2 (renewable 12 months) and it reported it didn't recognise my telephone number. Not a good start....
www.freeevenings.bt.com/
I rang the 0800 number quoted on the webpage this morning from my home and got through to I think the BT rep said she worked in 'New lines and orders'. She confirms she has now placed me onto the new 12mth renewable Option 2 plan. Written confirmation to follow.
I read elsewhere in this forum someone who tried the 0800 number got put through to an automated system, and they were now unsure whether they were on the new 12mth Option 2 contract or the more expensive rolling 1 month contract after checking their account online.

You are correct in your thinking. Point 5 in the small print.
