Do many of you use them, are they good value for money? How much do they cost per year for new cartridges etc.? Thanks

i use one, manchester water is horrible and so chloriney. just a normal brita one, you dont have to replace the cartridges as often as they say though, i think i'll get through about one every 3 months.0

That doesn't sound too bad we're currently buying loads of bottled water only stores own brand mind you in the large packs, but there's so much waste with all the empty bottles our water is horrid, we ran out of bottled at the weekend and had to have tap water you can smell the chlorine as your drinking it.0

I use a brita filter and there really is a difference in taste. I buy the refills from Asda, £2.27, and change it every two months, but it will depend how much you use. You will be able to taste it when it needs changing.
I wouldn't go back to tap water now.

I agree with pol. I too use a Brita filter and have done for 12 years or so. I have converted the whole family to them, including MIL. The taste test is amazing. I used to live in a really hard water area so needed it for that but now I've come back up north, the water is soft but really chlorinated (people laugh at me but I've a very sensitive nose and I can smell it) I get my filters from Costco - they work out a couple of quid cheaper per box of 6 but they last me the year. (£15ish per 6 - haven't bought any in ages)
They will save you a huge amount in your weekly grocery bill and I think the water tastes better, never mind the fact you are creating less waste from your bottles0 -
Sounds like the Brita filter is the one to get, I'll have to see who has them the cheapest now, thanks for your help.0

Ditto the water here in Coventry - also very hard too. I also use the brita cartridge they are about £3.50 each but I look out for them being on offer and stock up then. I change mine roughly every 4 - 6 weeks but then I have a large family and a lot of tea/coffee drinking friends0 -
I'm using a brita machine but with an aldi cartridge inside as they are only £1.50 each and they do the job0

I use a more complex Reverse Osmosis system, but if you want you can get resin to refil Britas for much cheaper from here

I was about to say that Lidl had some a few weeks back on offer, with loads of filters too - but theyv'e probably all gone!
I only drink bottles water or have water from the tap boiled up for tea, we have such hard water here I can actually taste the dryness of it, like powder left on my tongue - yuck!
Another one for my list of must have things to buy with Pin money I guess!

Hi Mr Proctalgia
do you have a plumbed in RO system?
I've wondered about getting one, but the water flow from the filter tap seems to be a mere dribble and it'd take ages to fill the kettle.
