I thought I was being good shredding all my paperwork as part of "de-cluttering" but now I'm keeping the bags of recycled shreddings in case they are useful "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Nah, just suggesting he 'leads from the front'
Now I've given you *heaps* of useful things to do with that shredded paper you can put them to good use and stop hoarding!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Being rather paranoid about identity theft (not that I am particularly rich or famous you understand) I shred all evidence of my name and address before throwing it out. I also shred old bank statements, letters offering me insurance, new credit card letters (unless with a 0% offer!), etc.
This leaves me with plenty of shredded paper. I have a crosscut shredder (see, I told you I am paranoid) tha gives small pieces of paper about 3mm x 25mm.
Does anyone have any idea what I can use this for?
I can't compost it as apparently it doesn't rot down very well. Although I have a paper recycling collection they don't want it as they collect in a mesh-sided truck so my bits would fly off down the street causing a mess.
It seems a waste to throw it out with my normal rubbish.
Can I use it as bedding for my two guinea pigs or are there noxious chemicals in it that might make them ill?
Any ideas gratefully received!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

? Paper composts just fine. Not the glossy magazine stuff I'll admit, but ordinary paper is OK.
Newspapers are out too, apparently.
But for a good guide on composting ---> Click HereHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. possibly use it as packing when sending out ebay parcels?0

make new paper from it? Have made paper with my kids - fun but messy! Though the worst thing was tearing the paper into bits so you're ahead of the game there.0

I think it would compost down OK, I throw all my shredded paper into the wormery and they eat it all, newspaper, cardboard and normal paper, so I'm sure your worms in the composter would do the same. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0

I use shredded letters on normal paper as animal bedding.
Don't use glossy paper with printing on as that may make them ill if they eat it. I use that for packing parcels. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Can you tell me how that's done or point me in the right direction? I'd love to be able to make it. I also get loads of cross-cut shreddings and before now I've left them out for collection in a bag marked 'shredded paper'. Not seen any paper blowing down the road...........yet!0 -
Do you have a fireplace or a wood-burning stove? We have a paper log-making machine which compresses all our shredded paper into logs. Keeps the kids busy and is very useful! We got ours on ebay for about a tenner - there are 2 sorts - one where you wet the paper and squash it in a rectangular metal box thingy - and one which is shaped like a telescope (actually more like an old-fashioned balloon pump) where the paper doesn't need to be wet. We have both (how sad is that) and they're both really useful, although the wet paper one is more for sheets of newspaper than shreddings.0
