The trouble was that it was just a hardcore of about three families that did spoil it, they would only ever come in the store at that time, surround the reduced chiller with trolleys and block everyone else out even hassling the staff if they didn't think it had been reduced enough.

Don't get me wrong, I take advantage of the reduced cabinet as much as the next person but this kind of aggressive behaviour will be noticed and precautions taken to ensure it doesn't happen. Shop staff aren't daft and there will always be a few who take exception to people looking for a bargain, plus there are plenty of non-MSE'rs who will think they are getting a real bargain for half price, let alone anything less than that.

Plus the fact is that Tesco's profits are so skyhigh that they can easily afford to shove anything that doesn't get sold straight into the crusher and never miss the cost.

This does happen, it's gutting when there are so many homeless charities who could use this food and I've had to watch it being put into the crusher and rendered unfit for human consumption.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

i know what you mean about wasting good food, i used to work in a sainsburys restaurant and the amount of food we used to throw out is ridiculous, tons of sandwiches, lots of lovely chilli and curry, chips, rice you name it we weren't even allowed to take things like cakes and sandwiches which would've been chucked home with us spoilsports! still we used to eat them in the kitchen when no-one could see anyway! most of the staffs favourite snacks where either chilli or curry over chips yummy

This has got to be my favourite piece of money saving.

Most MSEs have either sought this bargain out, or have managed to get it inadvertently.

This has probably been written about many times on Martin's site, so let me apologise in advance.

My particular example is from last night.
I was quite late on my return home from work. As I had no food to eat, I popped into my local Tescos. It's worth mentioning that this 'reduced and on offer' method works at EVERY supermarket.

Firstly, I went to the reduced items section of my local store and hunted for bargains.

I found 'ready to roast vegetables' in a tin. There was a sticker on them saying they had been reduced from £2.90 - the new price was £1.16 (reduced). Obviously, this is a good deal anyway.
After deciding these were for me, I noticed a permanent sticker on the packaging (offer).

This offer sticker stated that by purchasing two 'ready to roast vegetables', the consumer would receive a £1 reduction.

I bought two of these reduced and on offer items. My bill ended up being the two reduced 'ready to roast vegetables' at £1.16 each, minus the £1 offer. I ended up getting both packs of vegetables for £1.32. The full retail price would have been £5.80!

I think this works because supermarkets want to keep the permanent offers on, even when there are reduced items. They cannot be bothered to tell their system that when reduced items go through, the consumer should not get any other offers.

I've even managed to get paid by buying these 'reduced and on offer' items before. You have to be careful to purchase them with some others things though - don't expect the sales assistant to hand you money from the supermarket's coffers!

    Happy money saving to everyone.

This is non food shopping went in to boots and bought some shockwaves gel in pump dispenser and it was 67p clearance goods. Got to the till and the very nice SA told me that it was on BOGOF so got two for the price of one. Bargain or what.

Mind you I thought that they had closed that loop hole in Tescos, Asda and sainsburys. Maybe not.

In my local Asda there's a sign on the reduced cabinet saying that special offers & bogofs do not apply to reduced stock.

    Hi Anguk,

It may be the case that they are trying to put you off!

    Who knows?

All I can say is that this still works in my local Tesco. If the items are reduced anyway, it might be worth a little gamble?

    Cheers, Trayn

The co-op do lemon and raisin pancakes which are quite often on a BOGOF. They cost £1 each.

I have bought them reduced to 10p and they have paid me 80p for every 2 packs I take home (was going to say buy, but in reality I don't actually buy them), and also for 25p when they have paid me 50p per two packs I take home.

Tescos as well and it is true because I tried it.

One reduced product last week was marked down to £1.50 from £2.49 (it was early so the reductions were less). This made it £3.00 to buy two packs of almost out of date product. The item was on BOGOF which would have been £2.49 to buy two packs of fresh product! Unfortunately I did not have time to bring it to the attention of the manager as he would have had to come down from a meeting (I waited 20 minutes last time I did that) but I keep looking to try and find another one like that to show him.

    Hi Bossyboots,

Did you actually purchase these items?
If you did purchase them, did you manage to get them both for £1.50?
From my experiece, the till would have registered the first item for £1.50, then the second for £1.50, then both going through would trigger the BOGOF.

Hope you have more luck / get to speak to your manager.

    Best regards, Trayn
