Its is a while since I have got bargains in the co-op, but I think that's because my working hours changed and I had to go at different times.0

I have to confess I am really holding out for the vastly reduced. Often the small reductions don't work out that much better tahn the other offers in store.
I am finding that I can get all kinds of nice luxuries on the vastly reduceds like organic strawberries, butternut squash, nice breads and crossiants etc.
I am very impressed by PP's meat bargains - and am looking for them.
I am a single parent and it gives us that little bit of nice stuff we wouldn't otherwise have.0 -
I work in a Sainsbury's at the weekends and I am in charge of reductions on the produce department, and it is dependant on the quantity you have and what decisions you make, but usually - if you are going on a Sat - aim for 7.30/8pm and if a Sunday aim for 3.15pm onwards. These are the times Sainsbury's want it done by. Hope this helps someone!0

I used to work for Somerfield in Stornoway and the best time for getting reduced stuff was on Saturday evening because we were closed on Sundays... no such luck here!DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I have a small local Sainsburys and they start putting on the yellow stickers at around 2.30ish onwards during the week. No idea at the weekend as I never go then.
But might go this saturday about 6pm just to see.
There always seems to be a lot of Organic items reduced. In the last few weeks I have picked up organic semi skimmed milk 4 pints for 40p. And there is still two days left on it. As it has a display date and a use by date.
Sometimes they seem a bit mean with the reductions. Seeing as it has that days date on and as it is the last day. It should really be reduced a lot more to get it out the way.
But if they would rather throw it out than get a few pennies for it. What can you do.
Yours

OH likes Asda too.
He goes maybe once a fortnight about 7-9pm and always picks up bakery items at silly prices. Warburtons loaves normally £1 each-15p, muffins 5p, cookies 5p, crumpets 10p etc etc. He is fussy about the bread and rolls and only buys Warburtons, Kingsmill and Hovis and never pays more than about 20p a loaf. We just bung in the freezer and use when needed.
DD loaves the Warburtons white and wholemeal loaves and rolls. When OH buys these, we make up a couple of weeks of sarnies and pop in the freezer for her lunches at school. Great quality bread for pennies.
He picked up a couple of ready cooked chickens a few weeks back for 30p each and were in date for a further 2 days. Excellent with jacket spuds, mash, in a pie or with a salad. Could probably freeze it OK too but havent done that yet.
Asda had melons/sweet potatoe/cauliflowers and fresh salad items for 5p last week. Milk is often reduced and this can be frozen easily (10p for 4pints). Also cheese is often reduced and we freeze this as well.
OH normally tries to look for main meal items (meat, poultry or fish) as this is normally the most expensive part of our meal, and also food that can be frozen and used at a later date. He also bought one of their curry bags for 2 people for £1 last week.
Forgot to say he got 3 joints of lamb rolled last week reduced to £1 each....he reckons it will be fine for a stew and each piece is very large. Theres no bone so should cut up well into cubes for a stew.

I just put a post on 'grabbit' about reductions this weekend if anyone is interested. I know you are not allowed to double post.

Sorry, don't know how to do the link thing.0 -
as i say, i got a nice reduced meat haul:
Lamb Steaks (3)- Grill
Pork Joint - Roast
Cubed Turkey - Curry half - no idea for the other half ( theres enough for 2 meals for 4 in pack)
legs and thighs of corn fed chicken (4)- coq au van
2 tuna steaks
Can anyone offer some more interesting suggestions. I realise i seem to cook the same things to death. thanks!"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
In terms of usingup the turkey, I just use turkey as i would chicken
I would probably do a white sauce for the turkey with mushrooms/ peppers/ cour/ onion /leeks and either put in a pie shell or with rice & french bread:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...
