How to do quick washing - any tips?

Options
I would love to know how some people on here get the washing done in their washing machines (I assume!) in 30 mins or less! The one that's in our house only has 3 buttons and 14 settings and I don't know how old it is! I'm assuming it's getting on a bit because of the lack of features.

The quickest I've done a load of washing is 55 mins and surely there's a quicker and cheaper way. A few days ago both the washing machine and tumble dryer was used 7 times in the same day and that was about 9 and a half hours non-stop!

I live with my parents so I can't go out and get a new washing machine! What things can I do to hopefully quicken the the washing time?

Thanks
Waddle you do eh?

Mine is a newish one and it takes up to 2 hours to do a wash. I can do a quick wash in 30 mins.

I don't think there is much you can do to speed the wash up as it is down to the washing machine.

The cycle on the machine determines how long the "wash" will take.

I often put the machine on when I go to bed, so it's ready to put out first thing in the morning; as soon as one wash is out, another goes in. I also have a "soak" bucket, so I can put anything really dirty into that and then I either hand wash it or put it on a cooler/faster wash cycle.

It's possible that your machine, going round the dial has something like...

    1 2 3 (rinse symbol) (spin symbol)

One will be the longer program and three the shortest.

Same for other groups of programs.

You may have an economy option button on your machine, or a heat change one.

The economy button on my old thing is one that takes water in at whatever temp the hot (or cold, or both) water is at and uses it without taking the extra time needed to heat it up to the rquired temperature.

In this day and age modern powders are fine with cooler wash temperatures, so you save costs on heating and on run time.

Other buttons might be for half fill, or for short run...?

If there's any chance to find the instruction book to find out what all the buttons do you'll be on a winner. :)

ARRRHHHHH:eek: I hate washing machines that take ages to wash. I like to get all my laundry for the week done in one morning, two at the most. A machine that takes two hours is no good for me so I run an agitator type machine which takes 20-30 mins to wash 22lbs of washing. No fancy features just a choice of cold, warm, hot water and 9,12,18 mins of wash action.

It only takes me about four minutes to do a wash. Two minutes to load... bog off and do something else for a while... two minutes to UNload...

..or am I doing it wrong? :)

    Hi There

    Me too Squeaky...lol!! :T

My washing machine does an express wash in about 40mins, but this is a large 6KG wash. Have a Hoover WM about 3 years old and still going strong! Standard wash not expressed is about 1hr 15mins.

Our washing machine has a 30 minute rapid wash cycle. Although for really grubby stuff I put it on overnight, using a timer. It might take more than 30 mins - but I can't hear it doing it!

I will never run a machine over night. As I have known people who have had there machine to catch fire.

It was lucky it was during the day and they were around what would have happened at night is not worth thinking about.

Don't want to be a scare monger. But it is personal choice.

YOur Clothes will be more, 'Spinned Dry.' if you don't add the Fabric Conditioner/Softner in.
Putting the Softner in will make the clothes more wet then without.
