The estate agent that valued our house reckoned that prices will rise slowly until autumn and then stabilise, he didn't say if they would come down any after that though.0

There doesn't seem to be much of a slow down from what I see. I hope it does stabilise.
Did anyone see Spotlight last night? Not much in it really apart from the revelation that some people are buying up land and sitting on it rather than developing it in order to make money in the long term. This is fueling the housing shortage. It was an interesting programme.Stercus accidit0 -

It was on the market for £175,000 then it increased to £195,000 last week it increased to £220,000 . It still hasn't sold .
So it went from £195,000 to £220,000 to £240,000 in two weeks .Still not sold .

You are quite right, prices will never fall - even when your average property costs half a million compared to an average salary of £25k (current trend will get us there in about 2 and a half years).2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -

Well, they may fall eventually but it doesn't look like happening in the forseeable future. Although average wages here are relatively low that doesn't account for the real situation which is a lot of people with a lot of money who are choosing to invest it in property. It isn't the average wage earners who are driving this boom imho.Stercus accidit0 -
House prices are just crazy where I live (South Belfast). A house in next avenue to ours went on the market a couple of weeks ago for 525k and has now closed at 630k!!!!!
This is an increase of about 150k in the last year!!!!!!: eek:
Its anld semi 4/5 bedroom not too far from city centre - 20 minute commute depending on traffic!
Ours is similar,we have no garage nor garden either.
What's going on here????
How I wish I had bought a small house about 7/8 years ago to rent out. They were going in some ok areas for about 10k but now the same houses are at least 150k!! The Peace Process has certainly made a BIG difference to prices here.
I don't know how my children will ever be able to afford to buy here

If the current trend continues indefinitely, your children will be able to afford when you die. That is the horrible reality facing many 20 somethings and everyone younger.2 + 2 = 4
