have you a cable between ur wife's laptop and the router ?
Is the a light on your hub/router to the coresponding port ?

Could you post the results of
ipconfig /all >c:\1.txt
notepad c:\1.txt
Edit .. if there is no light, then either you have the wrong cable, or something is bust, or possibly the driver for the NIC, or TCP/IP isn't installed.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

is tcp/ip installed in control panel, network connections, local area connections?
Did you leave a space after the word ping?
