What's the best way of cleaning a really grungy keyboard? Don't tell me to buy those dinky little wipes...I don't do 'BUY' anymore! :-X

When I worked in Boots we used a makeup brush, either a powder brush or a blusher brush.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Thanks...that'll get the Hobnob crumbs out...now how do I get the greasy gunk off the actual keys?♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0

each key comes off, so on rare occasions I take mine off row by row and clean them in a bowl of soapy water
you might find yourself losing the will to live by about H
failing that a damp toothbrush, keyboard disconnected of course dipped in some soapy water dabbed on a cloth and rubbed over the keys then wipe off with a cloth
(saw that on KIm and Aggie)0 -
Well.... I never knew that they came off...learn something new every day!
Next question...how do you get 'em off....just had a little fiddle but no joy.....? :-/♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
Do what I do - the quick (ish) and cheap way!
Disconnect PC from the mains, have a little tub of warm soapy water and a handful of cotton buds.
First, tip the keyboard upside-down and give it a firm but gentle shake to get rid of a lot of the crumbs.
Dip each end of the cotton bud in the warm soapy water and squeeze the excess off between your thumb and forefinger.
Run the cotton bud in one direction along the rows if keys.
You will be GOBSMACKED at how dirty the cotton buds get.
At the end of each row, use tweezers or a skewer to flick out the remaining dust and debris that has gathered.
Keep going until you've got rid of most of the gunk or otherwise until you're hopelessly ashamed of yourself for letting it get in that state.
Leave your keyboard to dry throroughly until using it again (it shouldn't have been wet in the first place but just to make sure...)
Lastly, remind yourself never to eat yogurts whilst your mouth is over the keyboard (again) :-[0 -

munkee you have inspired me to clean mine. i never cleaned it as long as i can remember. did take the space bar off once when the spring broke, but thats it. my bro swears by hovering crumbs out with hoover and brush attachment.0
-
i use a nail file to pop them off
;D0 -
and dont forget to hoover and dust the inside of your tower as well especially the fan.
and clear your cookies and defrag every night
*sigh
(orders from son)0 -
eeeek!
You mean I'm supposed to take the side off the tower and attack it with the hoover! Heavens above...would I dare?? ::)
As for defrag and cookies - I thought once a week was being a bit over-zealous!!
Then, of course, there's disc-clean and Spybot and Adaware to run as well as the old AV! These things take more looking after than a small child! And as expensive to maintain! :-/♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0
