Hi all,
This is the 3rd instalment of the Paper Hat thread, which was started off by CAFCGirl ages ago. The first 2 instalments are below:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1227263
and
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1912549
We have decided to start a new thread because we are all at different stages and have different personal aims for 2010, whereas in 2009 we were all trying to get rid of 15k. Some of us are paying off debts, some of us are debt free and are starting to save & some of us are even contemplating becoming mortgage free wanabees!
Anyway - this thread has been a life saver for all of us and has helped us all through difficult and happy times. Long may it continue!

I will kick it all off! My personal aim for this year is to pay off my loan. I aim to do this by transferring a balance into my current account from my Virgin card & using savings for when the baby came along to pay off the rest. I hope to re-save the same amount of money by the end of this year.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

hi CMD thanks for starting the thread. i have a few things i'd like to achieve this year as it's my "set up" year - it's the year where i start laying foundations for what i want in the future if that makes any sense.
not sure how much you all know but I suffered from PND after DD was born 2 1/2years ago. it resulted in me packing my bags and moving DD and i all the way back down to my family in south wales. DH was very understanding (once he realised how bad i felt) put all our stuff in storage, let out our house and followed us down. although the PND has passed i have incredible attacks of guilt for relocating our family in such a way. we had to live in our o/d, ran up c/c as neither of us had a job. after a lot of hard work last year we paid off all our o/d's and 2/3 c/c's. however i feel like my life is on hold as we live with my parents. i always wanted children close together but our situation means that having another one now is impractical (5 adults and 1 child in a 3 bed means DD shares a room with us)
so my "set us up" aims for this year is
to save enough money for a deposit to buy our own house
to save money to cover my maternity period
to pay off as much of the remaining debt we have ready to clear it all next year
sorry for such a long post but i felt i had to explain our situation to explain why we are concentating on saving and not paying off our debtsGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
Hi CMD
Thanks for starting the new thread.
My aim for 2010 is to pay off the rest of my credit cards, at last add up was £20,400, don't think I'll pay the whole lot off but am determined to try and pay off as much as possible.Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
GOOD AFTERNOON!!!!
Currently my aim is to get to the end of my pregnancy without losing the will to live! So far have NOT enjoyed it... but hey only 9 weeks to go....
My debts are.... currently being ignored, which is dreadful I know! We've moved up north, Im not working, and just sweeping everything under the carpet as Im suffering with 'AND', and life is currently no fun.
I need to get a stick up my backside and organise what I can when I can.
So for me its one aim at a time, I cant handle any more than that. So it's must maternity allowance claim for me so far, and finding out where my HiPG money is.
We've been very lucky that we havent really paid for much for baby, most has been bought by my parents (i think they know this is the only grandchild they're getting), so in that respect no excuses.
DH is currently awaiting his placement on a recruits course for fire service, so thats a major highlight for 2010 so far. There's one opening in June (according to insider information), so in short June is where its all at for me.....
Sorry to be a moany guts and best of luck to everyone on their respective challenges xxWealth is not measured by currency0 -

Sorry to hear about the AND. Life sounds quite tough for you at the moment. From a new mum's perspective I would suggest that you try and make sure that your Mum is around for the first couple of weeks of the baby's birth. Myself and OH could not have done without my Mum and she helped us with housework and baby stuff as we really didn't have a clue.
I bawled when herself and my Dad went home to Ireland but I knew I had to stand on my own 2 feet as well.
Starnac - I think you are very brave to have tackled your PND head on and move homes. I can certainly relate to wanting to move home and be nearer family when the baby comes along. I have settled now again but it has been hard especially because we only moved here in October.
CAGC - another word of advice is to find out about all the mother and baby groups and other support groups before the baby arrives because you will have no time to research it once the baby is here. I have had to really try to make friends and put myself out there but having a baby is a great way to make friends and I am really starting to build up a lovely social network.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Yeah she's got some time off booked from my due date, and my cousin is gonna be here for a week as well as my birth partner (if he turns up in that week).....
Also need to sort out meal plan, and get some more good calories in.....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

Is your DH not keen on being your birth partner? lol! My OH was and my mother as well. It was quite nice having the 2 of them there & my Mam feels like she has a real bond with Max cos she was there when he was born.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Sorry things are tough at the moment CAFC. I swore after DD1 that I wasn't going to have anymore as I found it so awful, I can't deal with pain but DD2's was the best experience out of all 3 so when DD3 was born I was glad I didn't have to do it again.
I only had OH with me when all 3 were born.
Been ill for the last 24 hours and still feeling a bit rough, DD1 has been ill, DD2 was sick this morning and stupid OH has just given her cereal with milk and honey in, doesn't have a clue AT ALL, I've told him he can clear the sick up later as she's been complaining of tummy pains.
Another fun day in the TMD household - not!!Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
Thanks CMD for starting the new thread!
I got to about 9k out of 15k in the end - not bad! Currently debt-free apart from student loan, which is at 0%.
Not sure what my aims are for this year to be honest, it's going to be so full of changes. My OH and I are going back to a long-distance relationship, I'm going back to uni and also my first nephew is on the way :T (we don't know the sex yet but I have a feeling it's a boy). So far I've not splurged on little outfits and shoes but it's only a matter of time...
Glad to see CAFC, starnac and TMD here. You're all doing great! x
Hope you're feeling better soon, TMD.0 -

Lovely to see you Snow WhiteYou must be excited about your nephew/niece. How do you feel about the long distance relationship?
Well my OH made me have a glass of wine last night as I have stopped expressing (my milk was drying up)He did all the night feeds so I feel great today. Max had a feed at 1am, 6.30am and 10am. His night time feeds are definitely stretching out. He is such a content little baby (unless hungry, then he has a right temper).
Hope everyone is having a lovely Easter.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
