Please excuse my ignorance, you'd be disqualified from where? What is so special and yet so complicated about that board that they couldn't do without a thanks button and search system that they seem to be always talking about? Been meaning to ask this for a while really. Sorry about taking this offtopic for a mo, it's been a puzzle
to me for quite a while.
ThankYou Webby, it's been fine so far, shall report surfing troubles if any without fail.
hi, well, i'm not very good at explaing but i hope this helps,
some of the comps allow only 1 entry per person/household, so if the search isn't working & someone posts a duplicate post, because the board moves so quickly it's quite hard to remember which comps have been posted,
we do click the 'thanks' button, not only to thank the op for taking the time to find the comp & post it, but also to try to keep track of the comps we've entered, but, we have to open the comp again, if it's a dupe, to check to see if we have thanked, sometimes the search doesn't pick up the site name from if it's been posted before, which means we try to find the op of the 1st comp to send with the duplicate to the BG's on the comp board, which slows it down even more
we would love an 'entered' button' but i beleive from reading lots of other posts on the subject, don't think it would be possible,
hope that explains it :eek:please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

From a BG point of view it's a nightmare as it makes searching for a spammers other posts impossible and you have to go and check your boards manually - a much slower process
And a very frustrating one, when you know they are there somewhere but it won't let you find them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Search is only finding competitions posted before the recent upgrades
. Anything posted today just isn't showing, despite rigorous searching
!
There are often 10+ pages in a day !
Poor BGs with all the merge requests this glitch'll generate.
Hope it's fixed ASAP.Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -

Seems to be effecting everywhere.
Just tried searching a few peoples posts, and for every one nothing after the upgrade shows up.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

That's a BIG problem on the comps forum! (Others too I'm sure, just that this forum's one I use a lot and am most effected by!)
Hope it's sorted ASAPWorse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
Seems everyone has bet me too it, the search system is screwed, but also, it seems to be affecting subscribed threads, replied to one earlier and its no where to be seen.
Do you actually test these upgrades before implementing them on a test server?
It is not rocket science, OK, you can not test for every scenario, but this is a joke for a website of this caliber, these are basic things you should have tested for, before implementing any upgrades.
And as you said it was a server upgrade that should have no effect on the forum anyway, unless you upgraded the forum software as well, a hardware upgrade should have no effect on the software side???????They claim their labours are to build a heaven, yet their heaven is populated with horrors. I think I remember one of the MSE techies saying a while back that the "search database" used a separate server to the main forum?
Not sure.........
The main vBulletin search is certainly having problems accessing or updating it anyway.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

As Martin has said himself on the main site, this is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest vBulletin forum in existence. So, of course bugs are expected. The site is the 53rd most visited site in the UK... that is a lot for a site with no adverts and no actual selling of things. All revenue comes from some affiliated links which needs to pay for the hosting, servers, upgrades, legal fees, staff, software, hardware and development of the site.
I have several websites myself, and as with this forum, I make experiments on locally hosted servers before implementing onto my main site.
Unfortunately, as with most things in life, until it is implemented onto the actual site you simply don't know.
So for those of you slagging off the site, just think about why it isn't perfect.
Just as a side note, would it not be better for you to make a new topic within this sub-forum with your queries and not in this topic which is probably not looked at now.0
