Had a stressful but MS day yesterday gave a philosophy presentation to 40 people won't get the marks for a couple of weeks but the teacher told me i had nothing to worry about;)

Just had a nice gift from MIL 3k !!! she has been wanting to give us and my oh's brother some cash since she sold her house in london last year but we have been a bit unsure of the tax implications apparently she can give away 3k a year and can use last tax yrs allowance so 3k each now and anothe 1.5 in april:T:T

Need to do a bit more digging about our OP's as one of our bits of mortgage that we can OP has a very low rate (0.45% under base rate i think) so need to investigate whether would be better off OP the bit with some penalties and taking the hit as far as penalties go(5'85% rate on that bit:eek:) or saving the windfall in an isa toward next yrs allowed OP

Not sure any of that makes sense ?

yay for MIL and yay for good presentation :)

What's the penalty on OP the 5.85% part shaz? I could have a go at a little spreadsheet for you if that would help :D

Mark and BOB you cheeky pair :) thanks for popping in xxx

been meaning to say for ages, carpedieme, thanks loads for the encouraging PM and the tip about primark knickers. I shall look into them. (oh my word I've left myself wide open for innuendo with that one!)

Purplejay will have a look at my recipes and post some ideas for your approved foods order, back shortly with that!

Cazz- 'hijack' my elbow, you're very welcome whenever with whatever!

  • Not sure weezl but the penalties ends inJanuary 2012 so going by your incremental analysis the other day i am guessing 2% but want to check this out first ...... by my non geeky maths a 2% penalty is better than carrying on paying 5.85% interest on the debt? or am i mistaken???

am I right in saying its silly to pay off the bit with such a small %

Have asked oh to ring both the armed forces and NHS pension sevice for quotes for pensions so we will have a better idea how much we will have to live on

beginning to wonder if i will ever use my degree (or have to pay back my student loan;)) found a nice house on the net which needs some work but has 6 beds and best of all 2 pantrys so must be meant for me:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

LilacPixie, if you buy shop bought ones check the meat content - M&S and Co-op have some high content ones or alternatively your local butcher is a good place. My butcher was going to do a course on how to make your own sausages but I guess he realised how much business he would miss out on ;)

I keep on contemplating making my own but then realise that I don't have the time :rotfl:

  • Pixie - i have a manual mincer(but you can use shop bought mince ) and a sausage stuffer again manual from westfalia
    http://www2.westfalia.net/shops/farming/food_processing/meat_processing/sausage_filling_machines/303592-professional_sausage_filler.htm

you can an electric machine from arg0s that does it all in one. Big outlay really and one we feel was worth it as eventually we will be keeping pigs but at that point i will be getting an electric mincer!

  • To whoever was wanting to know more about sausage machines/mincers - I have one of these from Lakeland:

I thought it'd be a healthier option than buying shop sausages. However, ahem... that was nearly 18 months ago, and it's yet to come out of its wrapping! :o
