Pulled on way home with new car.

No they do not, they only stop vehicles when there are other reasons such as bad driving, suspicion of being under the influence etc, etc.
In many years of driving I have owned vehicles registered in many various locations and driven all over the country but have never ever been stopped because the vehicle I was driving was not local to that area.
You've got lucky.
However if something flags up your car isnt local it will increase the risks of being pulled. especially if it meets certain stereotypes.0 -
as a former PC myself, I have to ask, did you get the HORT1 producer?
Also, random stops are permitted - unlike what most people think that the police need a reason.0 -
he explained to the police about the insurance and said that he didnt have his insurance documents with him as he has lost them during a recent housemove, the policeman rung the insurance company and confirmed that he was insured to drive other cars 3rd party and the policeman said that it was fine but he will still have to produce.
Altarf,
Please take note.......

OP,
Why doesn't he have a certificate of motor insurance? Which alongside his policy booklet should suffice as evidence of motor insurance..... What's all this rubbish about 'covernotes'.
EDIT.... Oh I see he lost his documents, right well he needs a new certificate pronto, and when he gets it go to the police station with the policy booklet, and all should be ok, if he does not recieve it in time make sure to go to the police and tell them his insurer is still posting it to him. (I have been waiting since 19th of December 2009 for an insurance to send me what I need). Perhaps the insurer has an office near him which he can go to?
This produced at the police station and keeping a tight lip MIGHT be enough to get him in the clear.
What documents was he given a producer to produce?
What you should have done was for your DH to drive the car on his DOC policy.0 -
In which case he should definately have swapped his insurance! With 6 points and a job that seemingly relies on him having a licence it seems ridiculous that he would do this.
TBH, I wouldn't have even come on with his problem as it's not yours!
Is that because you don't like to help your friends when they are in a pickle?
Who needs enemies........0 -
Maybe the Police wanted to get their own back on someone from Leeds after the drubbing they gave ManU at the weekend......
Seriously though.
I agree with Justcat.A phone call to the insurance company upon purchase would have saved all this grief. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -

Who cares about sympathy from idiots who only ride high white horses?
When you ask here you will get a wide range of responses from the helpful (regardless of situation) to the mediocre to the less than helpful, that's life, but if you can help your friends by asking on a forum that you know of then you should do it. As the OP did, good on her for doing so!0 -

Fair enough. No arguments here:o0 -
Actually if you read the post properly you will find its DH's friend NOT DH, so I dont appreciate your attitude towards me, if it had been me or DH we would have had the insurance swapped straight away but it wasnt us, was it.
I came on here for some advice for a friend not a lecture.0
