We’re currently going through a period of some neat and nifty updates to the site, which should make the forum more user-friendly. Unfortunately, to do this requires the forums to be closed from time to time (though we keep this as rare as possible, and try to pick less busy times if we can).

As part of this, the MoneySavingExpert forums will be closed in their entirety, starting 2pm this Friday 30th October. We hope the forums will be back up before 6pm.

During this time everything on www.moneysavingexpert.com will still function.

Sorry for any inconvenience this causes, and thanks for your patience, it’s much appreciated!

MSE Ian

ADDITIONAL DOWNTIME: In order to test before the main work on Friday, we wil also need to take the Forum down tonight (Thursday) from 1am for a time (we're not sure how long but I would expect a couple of hours, minimum). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Webby

Interesting.

Can you say what the "neat and nifty" new things will be?

Once again, I only know about the forum closure as I have started logging out of the forum every day just to check for notices. As soon as I log in the warning disappears. This happened with the last closure notice for thread subscriptions. I have tried different browsers, cleared cookies, cache etc, but it is not there, and I wouldn't have known about the forum closing if I hadn't logged out (it shows up then)

I can't be the only one surely? Is it to do with being new & not having expired and spam buttons?

It's the same for everyone if your not logged in
A good idea to have the warning even if your not logged in

You've misunderstood. The warning is ONLY there when I'm not logged in. I can't see it if I am logged in. I wouldn't know anything about it if I stayed logged in all the time.

Hi folks,

Not sure about the login issue - wil ask the team to look.

As for the upgrades these ones are back-end i think - won't add any noticeable features to users - but will make the process run smoother, hopefully quicker, with more capacity and more securely.

But definitely there while logged in.....

So no new 'toys'?

But a better running forum is good news.

how about taking out the "like it" button next to the thanks in the OP ??

there's been so many complaints about it there since it went in, its above and below the OP alongside spam/expired/reply until a reply is posted and then its still above the OP if people want to use it - that should be sufficient

why does it have to appear THREE times in every post - no other button does!

regards,
fnc63...

smaller insert would have been enough no? your post made the page go wide and to think of it we're told about making it neat, nifty and userfriendly

anyway whilst at it hopefully the search function will be sorted, it continues to be tedious

I can't see the notice either , when logged in. Only there when I'm logged out.

I'm not 'new' in the sense that I joined Oct 08, but I've only made 3 posts so perhaps it's to do with the number of posts?
