I can feel a vinegar tip coming on

when youve picked your pickings  wash them then put a 1/4 mug of vinegar in a basin full of water and let them soak for a half hour or so.  this will kill any protein that should NOT be there  :-and any germs

    rinse and voila  clean berries

It might kill them...but they may still be lingering. I do eat blackberries and would love to find some this year- but I must say once you've seen the m*gg*ts is very difficult to forget they're there.
When I was little we used to pick at the local graveyard....

We always used to pick them above the waist, so that dogs haven't weed on them (typical of my mum!). YOu could make blackberry sorbet with egg whites and sugar. You could put cassis in them for a boozy pudding ice cream topping. I made them for my daughter when she was a baby and she had blackberry with everything. I used to puree them and mix them in with blackcurrant jelly to make the jelly nicer and more nutritious. I used to do this with all fruit inc. cooking apple mixed in jelly. Unfortunately my 4 year old is now wise to it and asked why the jelly was cloudy and tasted funny - great! You could also mix them with yoghurt and make homemade ice cream or lollies.

For the past two years, DH and I spent ages cutting back the thorny bush in our garden. This year because the weather has been so awful and we have been busy with other things, we just let it overgrow. I have been out today and discovered that it is actually a blackberry plant and we are so going to have several hundred blackberries.

Hopefully their ripe stage will coincide with the end of my job so I will have plenty of time to make several blackberry desserts for the freezer. I know how to make blackberry cobbler but i could do with some other recipes if you don't mind sharing. But not jam cos i've got about 16 jars to get through at the mo.
    Thanks
