The Mystery Shopping thread - IX

Don't see why-some people are "time rich-income poor"
I work evenings-some of my mystery shopping jobs do fall below what I deem to be "acceptable" hourly rate-some/most don't. Either way MSing fits in with my lifestyle and my other jobs.
If I was working 9-5 and earning £30K as I was in my last office based job then I'd be looking for a different return on other earnings (of which MSing is one) than my more fluid current work pattern. Apparently this having several different jobs that fit around lifestyle is called stranding according to one of the Sunday supplements-personally I call it juggling
If I can earn say £400 a month in my free mornings instead of nothing-why would I worry about what my time is "worth" I could say "My time is worth more than that" and be £400 poorer a month
Yep I call it juggling too ! Totally agree about what your time is worth ... my other job is a DHL @ Home courier , I sometimes make less on that than my MS jobs , especially once you take out the stop start wear and tear on the car etc .... However, it is extra money which we need and most of all it is flexible , apart from a few deliveries which have to be done at set times I can do the others any time . So even if I made £3 , £4 , £5 or £10 per hour as I say its all extra pennies . My Dh calls it a hobby and yes I do enjoy doing it and will have been doing it for 2 years soon .
The same with the mystery shopping , but the beauty with that is I can pick and choose what I want to do and when I want to do it , and yes it is another kind of hobby too !0 -
God why is everyone being so negative again?
I signed up to this forum after MSing for years, and I have decided to get a bit more into it as I am saving for a deposit. I only try to make £30 in fees per month, and am very picky about the jobs I take - if they won't fit around my life then I won't take them.
I enjoy getting a free meal out, as it help vary the routine and it is always nice to go out with my wife or a friend.
People MS for different reasons. It will never get you rich - we all know that - but it is a useful tool for many of us.
Can we all stop sniping at each other and chill out a bit please? :beer:0 -

Not if the market is flooded by newbiews looking for easy extra pennies and there are no jobs
And that's another myth that needs to be properly qualified. You only get to "pick and choose" if there are actually any jobs!
Mystery shopping will (mostly) bring in extra money, but it is not easy, quick nor always available.0 -
lol, GFK make me laugh, they have just posted an announcement on their site:
14th July - Reminder to all Assessors - Please read carefully.
Whilst the vast majority of assessors complete assessments and enter their results as specified, we unfortunately have far too many assessments that we are forced to deallocate as results have not been entered as specified.
Entering your Results
· For most assessments you will be required to enter your results on the day you carry out the assessment. Where this is not the case it will clearly be stated when you should enter your results.
· If we have not received your results after they are scheduled to be entered the assessment will be automatically deallocated and offered to other assessors to complete.
· If you experience any problems in entering your results you must email us as soon as possible at cybershopqueries@gfk.com with your name, assessor number, the Visit ID’s and the problem you are experiencing. Please be as detailed as possible so that we can resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
· Where we are notified of a problem we will then mark that assessment not to be deallocated. If you experience problems please notify us by email and keep a copy of the email you send, this way if there are any queries you will have a record. Only phone us if you do not have access to the internet.
Each month we analyse our assessors to identify those that consistently fail to complete assessments as agreed and remove them from our panel.0 -

I also think I fit all of the stereotypes handed out over the past page or so which is amusing. I "stumbled" across the MS thread whilst browsing the MSE forum. I saw peoples signatures saying how much they were making and I thought "that looks like a fun way to get a bit of money to pay off the new car".
Now I'm not naive, I know how much effort it takes to do this properly and I do it in my spare time along with a full time job. I read the first post of this thread in great detail and took the advice of using GAP as a good starting point and I've done (and still do) the burger and chicken jobs and the jobs that get you a £3.50 fee and you end up buying loads more in the shops and I'm moving on from there with a bit of experience.
However I'm sure when most people who look back to when they first started out they were probably exactly the same!
I'd like to think I asked my fair share of questions, and I'd like to think I've also given my fair share of what little advice I can give. However I doubt that many people want advice from a "newbie" so it may seem very one sided at the moment but it's not intentional.
Exactly! I did a similar thing - stumbled across MSE to find some help with not having any money to eat or pay bilss, really in dire straits. As I was tyring to fix that, I stumbled upon this thread, read the first post - I had already done some mystery shopping but it was for no fee so I knew what was involved but didn't realise you could make anything from doing it, let alone enough to plug a hole, so I read the first post, read through the entire thread and started from there. GAP was my first one and I still am doing most of my jobs from them.
And I agree with you - the challenge was my first way of trying to get involved with the community,a s at the time I really felt alone in my money worries and I wanted to feel part of something that was helping me to get me through. So if the target is for yourself then why advertise it
The whole point raised by duchy was that the signatures give the impression that it's EASY\QUICK to earn £400 per month when (most of us) know it isn't.
I also get the impression that there are a lot of "look how much I earned" signatures are way off the mark and don't take into account expenses, tax, etc.
BTW
Well done for the paragraphs
I feel like I want to write without paragraphs just to spite you because I find your comment so unnecessarily condescending. We can't all be perfect all the time and you need to take into consideration that when people write on here they often have other distractions so posts won't always come out with 100% correct spelling, grammar or whatever.
I'm not advertising my target - I'm just taking part in a community challenge that is a fun and motivating aspect of mystery shopping. If some people take it as "make loadsa money by doing very little" then more fool them. My signature cannot be held responsible for that! :rolleyes:Slowly working towards earning enough money (through various ventures) to live unworriedly, treat my family and sleep under a lovely roof. x0 -
Hmmmm I dont think a signature is 'advertising' something in particular .... well not mine , I purely have it there for MY OWN incentive . If people choose to see that and think they can make quick easy cash without looking into the facts then more fool them .... Its like the grocery challenge , people post their targets and how they are getting on as an incentive to themselves. Blimey if I read every challenge signature and thought that I could 'do that' then I would be rich and have no debt !0

Ok, I am convinced and have removed my targets / earnings from my sig.
I do not want people to get the idea that MSing is an easy way to earn loads of cash for very little effort - it is not as we know.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
This is exactly how I feel about it and I'm glad I'm not the only one ... I was beginning to feel like I was being crazy!Slowly working towards earning enough money (through various ventures) to live unworriedly, treat my family and sleep under a lovely roof. x0 -

Blindman,
I dont come on here to read patronising posts that are trying to show you up as a big man, trying to make some of us here feel small.
Regardless of how long you have been here or how much experience you have, you need some training in how to speak to people!
I would recommend that, if you cannot hold your tongue, you use the door and leave the forum, which would then enable us lot who are nice to each other to continue to use the thread for its intended purposes.0 -

It was advice as in order to get your voice heard it's a good idea to comminicate well.
I'm not advertising my target -
It's in every post you make
Great paragraphs:D0
