Anyone know how to get rid of the smell of smoke from washing? I have been staying in a house with a heavy smoker - my clothes now stink even after washing them!
Dose anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the smell for good?

Hi there
Apparently leaving clothes on a warm radiator will make the smell of cigarettes go. This is especially useful for items that don't get washed too often, eg dry clean things and jackets or coats.
Please don't be offended if I suggest that the lingering smell might be slightly in your imagination after the clothes have been washed. You obviously object to it very much and it is a smell that stays with you, making you think it's coming from some object when it's just stuck in your nose. Also if you are washing them in the same house as the smoker then the smell is going to be in the air anyway.
You have my sympathies with this - I used to smoke, and had no clue how smelly it was until long after I gave up. Now I can smell the smell from about 100 yards and won't go near it...0 -
Add a dash of white vinegar to your final rinse - it should eradicate the smell *and* it will soften your clothes too - if you are concerned that you'll end up with a stench of vinegar, add a drop of lavender essential oil (or whichever is your fav.)
Wilko's have their essential oil gift packs at half price: was £6.99 now £3.50 - you get 4 oils plus the almond oil to use as a base oil~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You could also add washing soda crystals (Tesco's around 70p) to your wash, gets washing really clean, especially whites, and makes everything smell fresh. Oh and cleans the washing machine a bit too!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of the smell of cigarette smoke?
We don't have carpets, but think the smell is perhaps on the walls and ceilings. We have washed them, but can still whiff it.
Have tried the usual cleaning products, but it is driving us mad.
Thanks for any suggestions.0 -

vinegar, make up a 50:50 solution of vinegar and water and wipe the walls down with it.It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

There are a number of odour dispelling tips listed in our Zillions thread.

Is it a new house you've just recently moved into or something? If the curtains were in situ it might be coming from those.
If it is a flat then there is a possibility it is coming from the flat above or below - I used to get stunk out by neighbour's cooking smells when I lived in a flat, it drove me crazy.
What about coats hanging in your hall? If they've been worn to the pub during the winter they may have a whiff especially when the heating on goes on.
Does anybody sit on your front or back doorstep to smoke? Again a neighbour used to do this at my last house and as my front door wasn't a tight fit the smell got in. Her doorstep was too low to sit on so she used mine. Drove me half bonkers...
Have you got teenagers who are having sneaky cigs out the windows, with the smoke coming back in? Or somebody in the house who has "given up" but is having sneaky ones in the bathroom?0 -
try using an oil burner in the room where you can smell the smoke, overtime the smell will disappear.
leave a window open for a day if you can.
try febreeze, works well on soft furnishings

I have bought myself a second-hand digital piano but it came from the house of a heavy smoker and stinks!!
I have wiped it over to get rid of the copious dust, but noticed last night (it's in my bedroom right now) that it reeks of smoke.
It is made of plastic and chipboardy-wood-type stuff - does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of the smell?:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
