Stopped smoking 5 months ago now. Car smelt more like an old ashtray now than it ever did!! Obviously my nose picks up the smell so much better now. Anyway I had the ashtray out, which had been emptied and wiped, but gave it a good soap and water wash. Then I sprayed the upholstery with febreeze. Not O/S I know but very instant!

To do it O/S sprinkle bicarb of soda on upholstery etc. leave a while, maybe overnight? Then vacuum.

Must say mine one week later just smells of, well nothing actually, which is how I like it.

I have been given a leather sofa which smells of smoke can anyone advise me how to get rid of the smell !!

  • I've got leather sofas ,I've found the best way to get them smelling fresh (leather takes on allsorts of smells)is to make a solution of your favourite fabric conditioner and give it a clean with that . Hoover the sofa out too ...I find lots of little 'treats' the kids have stuffed down there .half eaten biscuits....you get the idea.

I've used allsorts of different leather cleaners on mine too, including saddle soap, but I always go back to the fabric conditioner solution.I actually use more fabric cond. to water than say I would if I was rinsing washing IYSWIM

  • Anyone have any handy tips for cleaning a leather interior of a car that smells of cigarettes?
Got a brilliant buy at an auctions, only draw back is that it smell like a pub inside (minus the lager, lol)
    Thanks,

  • How about you wipe it over with dialuted lavender oil or something like that? Or even wipe it with something like febreeze on a damp cloth so not to rish staining it.
    Good luck!
  • Good idea,
I thought of Freebreeze but was worried about the leather but if I wipe it down, it might be ok. (I'll try ina small area first...)
    Thanks,
