It used to be as follows:
25 Foil book - 20th cheque
30 Foil book - 25th cheque
It is never recommended that you use the cheques from reverse order, they should be used alpha numerically as it is easier to account and to trace losses etc - it also triggered a new c/b at the wrong time, i.e. if you worked from back to front you'd get a new c/b after 5 cheques LOL2010 - year of the troll

Halifax used to issue cheques after the 15th was presented for payment.
No idea if they still do, as I've only used 8 cheques in 5 years!0 -

Maybe it changes per bank then? I was specifically referring to HBOS as that was who I banked with prior to HSBC.....
