It used to be as follows:

    25 Foil book - 20th cheque
    30 Foil book - 25th cheque

It is never recommended that you use the cheques from reverse order, they should be used alpha numerically as it is easier to account and to trace losses etc - it also triggered a new c/b at the wrong time, i.e. if you worked from back to front you'd get a new c/b after 5 cheques LOL

Halifax used to issue cheques after the 15th was presented for payment.

No idea if they still do, as I've only used 8 cheques in 5 years!

Maybe it changes per bank then? I was specifically referring to HBOS as that was who I banked with prior to HSBC.....

however i'm talking within the last millenia lol

Barclays is 22 out of 28 or 45 out of 60.

So what happens if you spoil cheque 22 or 45? Do you never get a new book, or does 23 or 46 (or any higher number) trigger it?

You have to request a new book. I think they put in those little "re-order now" slips a few cheques further back.
