I am curious as to why then or are you joking?

I think that I will have to book this month as the accomodation may not be available if I leave it too long

    i'm just kidding !!

honestly don't know how the rate will perform over the coming months, but if you take into account all the bad economic news coming out of EuroLand recently, its about bl00dy time the rate turned around and started heading back up to 1.20/1.30 levels

having said that, the markets are just not reacting in the usual common sense way to any breaking news or data lately, so it could be destined to hang around here at these levels for a while

if you need to get it booked, just do it
if you have time, i would wait a few weeks and see what happens...

Thanks. I have to say that I went to Disneyland for New Year and the best rate that I got was 1 euro for £1, which made the trip very expensive.
We bought annual passes and want to go back at the end of August for a week but the best rate at Marriott means that it all has to be paid up front.
    Let's keep hoping!!!

we went there in Feb and got 1.09 - i though that was pretty bad, but 1 for 1 was pretty shocking!

having said that, i kind of treated everything as though it was 1 for 1 whilst i was there, as its expensive enough anyway!

why do they want you to pay in Euros up front?

i always use an independent travel agent over here, and book Hotel Cheyenne in the DLP resort.

i get a fixed price in GBP that way.

if the current rate - about 1.10 already takes in the drop in interest rates will the pound retreat if nothing else ( Quantitative Easing, for example ) is announced by the ECB?

  • 12:47 02Apr09 RTRS-ECB cuts refi rate less than expected to 1.25 pct

FRANKFURT, April 2 - The European Central Bank cut its main refinancing rate by 25 basis points to 1.25 percent on Thursday, disappointing analysts who had expected a larger cut.
The ECB cut rates of its overnight facilities also by 25 basis points. Overnight deposits at the central bank will pay 0.25 percent interest and funds borrowed from the marginal lending facility will attract an interest rate of 2.25 percent.
Economists had widely expected a cut of 50 basis points, and only 6 of 78 said in a Reuters poll they saw the ECB cutting rates by 25 basis points.
Financial markets were pricing in a 25 basis point rate cut, but this reflected more their expectation of how much the deposit rate would be lowered rather than the size of the refi rate reduction.
The ECB has lopped 300 basis points from benchmark credit costs since early October and ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet said in March he could not exclude further cuts.
Since then the euro zone economy has weakened further and inflation has dropped to a record low 0.6 percent in March -- well below the ECB's target of below, but close to 2 percent -- fuelling expectations of a larger cut in April.
Trichet will explain the Governing Council's decision at a news conference at 1230 GMT, where analysts will be looking for signs that the ECB will cut rates further at its May meeting.
