    We've just got our 2008/Q4 Shell statement. We got 312 points from buying 312 litres of petrol. Let's say petrol costs an average of 90p per litre, we spent £280.80 to get 15 Airmiles (1 Airmile per 20 litres).

    If we spent the same amount at Tesco, we would have got 280 Clubcard points (this is EXCLUDING the current 'double points on petrol' promotion). This would have given us £2.50 in vouchers, which we could have exchanged for 60 Airmiles. With the double points, it would have been 560 points = £5.50 voucher = 132 Airmiles.

    (PS - as my partner does a lot of driving in her job, we collect at both Shell and Tesco depending on what is closer/cheaper to where she happens to be. The above is a comparison only.)

    I know exactly what you mean I feel quite annoyed by this too. I too joined up with them (except in the branch as they were being extremely persistent and everytime I go in they don't get off my back and bombard me with calls the following days), I normally do things online and if I had seen that offer, I'd definitely had applied online. It takes me ages to acculumate the points and I've only got 112 so far. :(

    By the way I work this out it will still be beneficial to use your Lloyds card rather than your tesco credit card.

    Hi Asterix 22. I might be wrong here but I think both the tescos clud card credit card and the Lloyds duo card have their place.


    Imagine you are spending £100.
    [FONT=&quot]On the Lloyds duo amex that gives you 10 airmiles.
    If you shop in Tescos you will get 100 club card points and 125 extra club card points for using the credit card (ie 5 miles for every £4 on clubcard credit card) which gives you 225 points. Remember that every 250 club card points = £2.50 + 60 airmiles.

    So use Lloyds card outside tescos and tescos clubcard credit card shopping at tescos (instore and online). Tescos also do lots of double / tripple point offers which helps

    BTW check out the double airmiles promotion on airmiles.co.uk. My hubby and I just signed up to recieve 1000 airmeiles each from vodafone.....

    I just wanted to ask a quick q about this, when you joined up to Airmiles, did you have to enter a code or something for the 50 airmiles or anyone who joins up will automatically get it?

    I received in a letter in the post a while ago (from Lloyds/Airmiles) that if I join up to airmiles.co.uk I will get 50 free points except I've misplaced the letter and can't find it anywhere. :(

    Could someone confirm whether I need a code or something as I don't want to join up and then not get the 50 points?

    Apologies, you are correct - I've got it the wrong way round.

    Here is a more easier to understand example for fuel purchases at Shell vs Tesco:

    200 litres of fuel, assuming £1.00 per litre (£200 total spend)

    At Shell

    Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo AMEX and a Shell Drivers Club card:
    30 Airmiles

    Tesco Clubcard MasterCard and a Shell Drivers Club card:
    22 Airmiles


    At Tesco

    Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo AMEX and a standard Tesco Clubcard:
    68 Airmiles

    Tesco Clubcard MasterCard:
    60 Airmiles

    So in answer to your original question, the better place for petrol is Tesco as long as you use a Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo AMEX along with a standard Tesco Clubcard, or even better with Clubcard Plus.

    If you already have both the Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo AMEX and Tesco Clubcard MasterCard, then you pay with your Lloyds TSB AMEX and use your Tesco MasterCard as a standard Tesco Clubcard instead.

    Tesco fuel also works out significantly more Clubcard points if you are also on the 80 mile rate per £2.50 vouchers.

    That said, I do use Shell when Airmiles occasionally send me vouchers for extra Airmiles/Shell.
