I am coming to the end of my Norwich union cover which was discounted last year thanks to a quote from here.

I received my renewal but have found out that it is cheaper to act as a new customer online. Save £6. They also let you pay in 4 installments interest free which is quite rare nowadays. Much cheaper than the RAC/AA etc who were asking for over £100 for the full cover which I can get for £65.

Anyone got any further discounts on this from anywhere else?
  • Hi all,

I note that you can get cheap RAC cover with Tesco vouchers. Can anyone help me out here with how you go about using your vouchers to obtain this discount? We normally just get vouchers sent to us in the mail and spend them in store - do I have to request special vouchers at all??

Thanks and sorry for being so dumb!

  • I have recently got the paperwork from Auto Aid and was about to sign up but today noticed on the comparison site that First Call is only £36 and seems to cover all the same as the other companies such as AA. Has anyone had any experience of tis company. Seems to good to be true!

I am also coming to the end of my Norwich union cover and the renewal quote is about 8 times it was last year! Is it really allowed to bypass their renewal and reapply to them as a new customer? I'd hate to think they'd leave me hanging by the road on a cold wet evening because I've broken some kind of rules. I'm thinking it might be better to go somewhere else.

I'm struggling to find breakdown cover at a 'reasonable' price. I suppose at the whopping Norwich Union discount received last year everything else really pales in comparison. I've read Martin's article but have found that for 'full' cover most of the 'good' deals cover the vehicle whereas I'm looking for one which covers the 'driver and spouse' ie joint personal cover.

So far the best quote I've got for what I'm looking for, ie full package including homestart, onward travel + hire car for myself and spouse regardless of the cAR is £95 and that is with Privilege car insurance. That price includes a discount for having our two cars insured with them.

Has anyone found something better with those requirements? Are there any more discount codes lurking for breakdown cover?

My question posted on the previous thread was: if you are unfortunate enough to have ventured out without credit cards or cash, will Auto Aid still do the job and invoice you afterwards?

Martin's article suggests that's the case, but does anyone have any experience of this scenario?
  • have you looked at First Call. They seem much cheaper but I don't know why!!
  • Have just joined Autoaid.
Husband and I both covered for 3 cars.
cost £32. Asked the question about not having credit/ debit card on us if we broke down and they said that when you phone they will send out someone who is happy to invoice you.

  • can anyone still answer my question as to whether they have had any dealings with First Call. They offer all same as AA but only 30 something £

First Call cover the vehicle, not the person. I believe with the AA the person is covered regardless of the car he/she is driving. That's the main difference I can see. Maybe someone else can see another reason?
