Ask a CCCS counsellor a question

I have done the Debt Remedy on the CCCS Site and just have a question.
Now it asks for my take home pay & also my Partners take home pay and then on the Creditor`s List it allows me to put my debts, our joint debts and the my partners debts.
The Remedy at the end recommeds an IVA, now I would like to do a DMP but am just wondering if the DMP will take into account my partner too as we both want to pay off our debts and its a little unclear if the remedy is just for me or for both of us.
Thankyou in Advance.
Hi there.
At the beginning of Debt Remedy, it will ask you how many people you want the budget to be based on. By the looks of it, you have selected "me and my partner" as it has allowed you to enter your partner's pay as well as her debts. In this case, if a DMP was offered it would be a joint DMP to include all of your debts.
If you wanted to do things based on just your situation, you would need to select "me" when asked who the budget is based on, and it will only allow you to enter details for your income and your debts.
Hope this helps,

Hi there. Apologies if we missed this one, it can be quite hard to follow the thread at times, I can assure you we weren’t ignoring you on purpose!
Before I can look at your current expenditure, can you tell me how many people it’s based on? That way I can see how realistic it is based on the amount of people.

Me and my partner have approx 30k unsecured debt and currently unable to make minimum monthly payments. Have spoken with CCCS they have advised the best option is DMP however I have heard bad things about these. I was hoping to go for IVA but have been told that is not an option if a DMP can take less than 7 years.
At minute not really progressings now creditors are phoning and writing more demanding letters. How can I get creditors off my back until I find a solution.
Also when I advised CCCS of 1 of the loans a query was raised on what I actually owe. The balance on the loan is 13k ish however the monthly payment multiplied the term left 23k. Which figure should be used by CSSS as the 1st figure means DMP but the 2nd figure would lead to IVA.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Lee.
What specifically have you heard about a DMP that is putting you off? As far as the balance is concerned on the loan, have you rang up the creditor to get an outstanding balance (not a settlement offer as this is likely to be a lot less than the actual balance and is only relevent if you can pay the debt off in one go). It's difficult to say what the actual balance would be without speaking to them first. If after speaking to them the amount is different to what you quoted on the appointment, ring back for a 2nd appointment so we can alter the balance to see whether it has an impact on the advice.
As for the creditors, I would suggest making gesture payments of what you can afford and advise them that you are currently considering your options and will be in contact soon.
Hope this helps,

I recently rang CCCS and went through my whole debt situation 19'000 pounds only to be told that I spend far too much on my animals - 3 cats and 1 dog.
I asked what could I do about this as I feel them cheap food from Aldi and the lady basically told me that I needed to reduce my animal situation as it wasnt essential spending.
I felt very upset about this as she was basically telling me I need to reduce the amount of animals I have seeing as I buy the cheapest foods.
I was also advised about my petrol bill (I spend 200 pounds month) to get to work and drive around for work, the lady said I need to get a job closer to home.
I am unable to get a job closer to home as I have quite a specialist type of job and in this current economic climate is not sensible advice which I know as my job involves finding people work and I am very busy with alot of people being made redundant???!!!
I felt like the lady was in a hurry to get me off the phone and with the attitude of 'oh another person in debt to deal with'
I am doing a great deal to try to get myself out of debt including not putting my central heating on at all or using hotwater to reduce my gas bill, sitting with one energy saving light on at night, selling on eBay like crazy, making and selling jewellery, contacting credit cards to try to get payments reduced, aplying for a payment holiday from my mortgage to try to pay my debt off easier etc.
Please help ..........
Hi there. I’m sorry to hear you weren’t happy with the appointment.
I must stress that everything we advise when it comes to making cutbacks are only suggestions, and to point out areas that are high compared to the guidelines we work towards.
If the cutbacks aren’t realistic, and the suggestion of finding work nearer to home is not suitable then you don’t have to do any of them. It’s our job to identify ways in which to improve the situation in order for you to clear your debts off sooner. I apologise if you feel the counsellor came across a little aggressive towards you, and seemed submissive of your situation.
In cases such as this, we’d suggest to perhaps ring us back to ask to speak to someone different. They wouldn’t need to go through your full financial situation again, simply look at your current situation from a different perspective to discuss your options.
If you don’t want to do this, and would like to make a complaint, let me know and I can advise you of the complaints procedure. I apologise again if you’ve not been happy with our service, and I can see from what you’ve said in your post that you’re doing your utmost to deal with your financial situation.

Hi. My Citi Card debt ( Approx £8K) has been passed or sold ( Not sure which) to 1st Credit. Now, everything I read concerning this organisation leads me to believe that they don't take any prisoners, so I'm prepared for a tough ride. I've only had two calls with 1st Credit and both were quite threatening evem though I've yet to receive a single piece of hard copy correspondence from them and, the CCCS have only just forwarded my statement of financial status to them. If this is how they begin, I'm very concerned of how things will progress. My question is this: I'm fearing a Stat Demand from 1st Credit. I feel in my water that this is where it will end up. Should I request a CCA from them now, or, await the Stat demand if, and when it lands? Is there anything else I can do to be proactive? I;ve asked them to only communicate with me in writing. Its not that I'm afraid of talking with them, its just I feel that if this goes to court then at least I'll have a record of events. Whereas, they might hold a transcript of our telephone convsersations and I won't. Thanks for any guidance. Am I jumping the gun?0

Hi,
hope this is posted in the right place, here goes...
My husband and I have received a small claims summons each for work done by a garage to both of our cars.
The amount in total they are claiming is £344.10 which we do not dispute ( we had told them previously we were having difficulties and he accepted this, until now.) I contacted his solicitor as there is expenses and interest to pay over and above. The solicitor has come back with a total price of £697.10 which we can not pay.
The paper work is not all accurate and I am wondering why we have two separate charges for fees, sherriff officers delivering the forms, raising it fees and solicitors fees. The copies of invoices have both of our amounts on them, suggesting to me one account and not two individual ones. They also have our address wrong and postcode wrong, which is why we did not receive these letters recorded delivery and now we are being charged for the hand delivery. Is this fair?
I do not want this to go to court as my husband has just started a new job which involves passing credit checks, and this affecting it.

I have done a Joint DMP with my partner and at the end in the report it says we would have £530.00 left each month once you have covered all of your priority expenditure.
Now my questions are, do I just pay cccs £530.00 every month and then everything left from our income is for things like mortgage, utility bills and living??
Or is that aswell as our joint loans and credit cards?
Also if it is £530 we pay to cccs and the rest is to live on can we put money into savings or is that something we have to pay to cccs?
Thanks In Advance

HI just a quick question please can u help my confusion: done the onlin debt remedy with cccs and came out as iva. Seems to be a lot of negativity on here about ivas though. My main qestion is does it affect credit rating as much as bankruptcy - someone told me br can last for 10+yrs where as iva comes off after 6yrs mainly bothered not because i want more credit in the future but will want to swap my mortgage at some point. So after 6yrs if I complete thw iva will there defintly be no trace of it on my credit file?
Thankyou v much.0
