Awww - honestly, it must come across worse than it really is! I'm honestly OK with these two :) We've had a nice quiet weekend, and Lodger2 saw to the chooks for me while I was out visiting.

I lived in a 1-bed before I came here, and found it really lonely. When the first two lodgers moved in, they covered the mortgage payments. Since the BoE interest rate has dropped, they pay the mortgage, council tax and utilities too! I could retire

NEWS FROM THE WEEKEND: Could there be a Lodger4? I'm not sure whether it was mentioned in this thread or elsewhere, but 6 months ago a man from Mauritius contacted me about the third (much smaller) upstairs bedroom. We sent a lot of emails, texts and phonecalls and he sent his deposit via Western Union. Unfortunately, his Visa then fell through so his deposit was lost and I never heard from him again.

However, on Friday he got back in touch - he appealled the visa and won, so he's coming to the UK! I just spoke to Lodger2 and Lodger3, and they're OK with him moving in - although I've suggested that he might want to make it a short-term stopgap while he finds somewhere bigger (although the house is large enough, it's a small room and we're all sharing one bathroom).

Waiting to hear back from him again now...

Just want to report that all is harmonious :)

Lodger3 has completely abstained from drinking. He's been a bit grumpy but at least sober! And Lodger2 has been silent - using his headphones in the bedroom, so there's no music noise at all at any time of the evening. Mauritius Man never replied, so I guess he's decided to go elsewhere...

The chickens are laying eggs and the cat's cowering under the futon trying not to poo himself every time a firework goes off.

All is peaceful in Badger House!

badgerlady have u ever thought of contacting channel4 whether they would consider hosting something similar to BB at your house for lodgers etc. that would cover a lot more than the mortgage/council tax/utilities etc. may be u can get them interested once they see this thread

    Oh dear.
Was this the job you moved to Wales to do?
Or did you move on from that to a new one?
    :(

maybe u could rent out the smallest upperbedroom on a daily lodging basis on a promotional price for a 'get to meet the badger lady or an evening with the badger lady event'. that would b a good draw with the regulars on ur thread on mse. hope things turmn out well fast for u on the work front.

Yep, that's the one! Apparently no room for innovators in the current climate (despite my argument that it's exactly what you need to counter it )

I've got one week to apply for redeployment and, to be fair, it's very likely that I can still get a job with the same company. Just not one I'll particularly enjoy or therefore excel at. And of course, the mortgage rate dropped again this week so I could still live quite acceptably, if frugally, without a job for a while if it came to it.

So been applying for other jobs in the meantime, including one in Barcelona! Well, you never know :p

Bubbles, I like your thinking there :D Possibly a bit risky on my part though!
