Back up that statement with the Terms & Conditions of an insurance company, please.
If you check your own insurance policy you will see that it requires the vehicle to be taxed if on the public highway or the policy can be declared void this also applies to MOT certification. Incidentally if even if your vehicle is taxed/untaxed but not carrying a current valid MOT certificate your insurance company can if they deem appropriate settle for it's scrap value in the event it is stolen or damaged.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

Do you own the land? Is it maintained by yourself or some other private individual? If not then the chances are it's a public highway maintained out of public coffers.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

A common mistake made by many, usually cleared up with a clamp I'm afraid.
I overhead a conversation of an aquaintance on the phone to local authority after being clamped that went like this:
But it wasn't on the public highway I parked it on the effing pavement!!

Not being sarcastic here ... honest, but .... you do know that SORN stands for Statutory Off Road Notification don't you?
The whole point of a SORN is that the vehicle must be "off the road" - quite literally it must be off the road. Most roads are public, but some are private - these are typically where the road has not been adopted by the local highway authority so the land remains in private ownership. You would know if the road you lived on was "private" - and if not private, then it's public.
Sorry you were caught out, but be aware of what SORN means for the future. And assume that a road is public unless you know - absolutely, for sure - that it's private.

Without tax, your insurance is void... I'd be more worried about that, especailly as your car is on the street.
Not sure about the other stuff, it seems unfair, but I guess rules are rules.April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
I have reported an untaxed vehicle to the DVLA that was in use every day of the week.
They weren't interested because it had been SORNed. As far as they were concerned, it was off the road.0
