were having the same problem! we bought a 2nd hand car with no tax last week and are Still waiting for the insurance documents to arrive before we can tax it! but luckily the bloke we bought it from has allowed it to Stay on his drive until then! but it Isnt really fair as we have the money waiting here but cant go yet our new car! there definately Should be another way because if we were the registered owners ( the paperwork hasnt had time to go through yet) we could have paid over the phone or online With no documents! but as our information hasnt been updated the tax disc would go to the wrong address! its not fair we actually Want to pay and Were being Penalised Lucyx0

No crimes committed; no chance of getting your new car clamped.
When I bought my car, I got the dealer to tax it before sale, so I paid extra on top of the purchase price for the cost of the tax disc, and bought a car that was already taxed.I'm a retired employment solicitor. I don't really see the problem.
If buying privately ask the seller to pop down the PO with you to tax it for you (you paying of course).
If buying from a dealer then ask them to tax it.
I bought last year from a car supermarket, who of course wouldn't tax it for me. I knew in advance I was picking it up so had my insurance cert, and programmed in to my sat nav the address of the nearest PO open. I had all the necessary forms on me so if I was stopped I could clearly demostrate I was enroute to the nearest PO to tax it.0 -
No you don't have even 1 day's grace. The offence is not displaying a valid tax disc so the police can report you for summons if the disc isn't showing, even if you have a valid one in your wallet.
OH is PO and he's a stickler for taxing cars. Just so happened that the last two cars we bought we purchased 3 weeks into the month. He didn't want to wait another 7 days to collect his car so he wasted 3 weeks tax.
Best tell your miserable copper OH that I had 3 days grace woohoo, maybe your copper OH would like to spend his time on actual crimes rather than penpushing
And YES you do get at least 7 days grace, 99% of coppers would let it pass, it is just that 1% which your OH is under that don't.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -

If you weren't so busy being so rude & offensive you would have understood from my post that my OH makes sure HIS and MY car are always taxed.

I got home today to discover that my car has been clamped outside the house. I have declared it sorn and have been carrying out repair works on it. I just bought 2 new tyres on sunday and got the windscreen changed this morning, all for MOT. Is there anything I can do?0
