As far as taxing your vehicle then you are allowed either 7/14 days grace to get your disc on the car! My tax disc will probably be late getting on the car but that is DVLA's fault.
As for SORN, its free (until its not lol) theres no excuse not to declare it!99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
Sorry Pesky2 but Keith is right.
Just because a refund is requested on a tax disc doesn't mean its SORN. You have to declare it SORN to notify the DVLA.
All the instructions are on the form that you have to fill out.
In regards to buying untaxed vehicles. If you buy from a trader they can normally get it taxed for you without your insurance details required.
I recently helped someone purchase a car which had no tax and got the trader to get tax for it there and then.
Obviously we did insure the vehicle before driving off.0 -

Anyone care to guess what language this is?0 -
No you don't have even 1 day's grace. The offence is not displaying a valid tax disc so the police can report you for summons if the disc isn't showing, even if you have a valid one in your wallet. As far as taxing your vehicle then you are allowed either 7/14 days grace to get your disc on the car! My tax disc will probably be late getting on the car but that is DVLA's fault.
OH is PO and he's a stickler for taxing cars. Just so happened that the last two cars we bought we purchased 3 weeks into the month. He didn't want to wait another 7 days to collect his car so he wasted 3 weeks tax.

If I had a dodge viper i wouldn't be parking it in the street for a start. You shouldn't be driving a car with no tax anyway theres absoutely no excuse for that! If you crashed you would be treated as if you had no insurance because its invalid.:rotfl:0

yea fin hapent
Could someone explain what a 'fin hapent' is, please?I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Hi - I know this doesn't answer your original question really as you didn't have an insurance document but if in future you have an insurance certificate and no log book, take the slip of paper you were given from the previous owner which would have been torn out of the old log book, and your insurance with you and they will tax your car. Probably sounds obvious but I thought it was worth pointing out. I have to say I have some sympathy with you, inasmuchas the DVLA don't make it any easier for you to get your car roadworthy; my partner bought a salvage car and posted the relevant form to get the log book within a couple of days of owning it, in the meantime he MOT'd it and repaired it, and it still took them 4 weeks to send the new log book. 'Fine' I hear some of you say, but in the meantime he had to borrow my car and I had to borrow someone else's. What annoyed us is that he was trying to do everything the proper way and he was still held up by red tape (how long does it take to change an address for pity's sake?!)0
